Also note this is a short range wide angle lens so it doesn't have to work very hard to get the shot. Take a 24-300 lens and it has to stretch out enormously to get shots and wobbles about. I like short range zooms. This one has a very short range so inherently should produce better shots.

Thanks, Frank. I hope you're right, I'm looking forward to running it through it's paces once I'm back on two feet.
I've got an appointment with the Doc in a few days. He'll take a second look and decide if the stiches can come out. Fingers crossed.

Mine are crossed ... I'm pulling for you.

Thanks, my best friend has one and loves it. It will work out either way!

Yeah, in the end it's the eye in the view finder more than the camera.
I got my 500 as a refurb from Nikon for about $400 less than new, so there are deals out there. I think I would have to use a magnifying glass to tell that it had been touched by human hands.

Nice shot and with the flower flat to the lens you have the whole flower in focus. Thanks for not over sharpening your image, the edges look good.

Thanks. I'm not a fan of over sharpening either. I only use Picasa for PP so don't do a lot of any of that.

Nice! Been thinking about one of those or a new D 7200 before they are gone. The touch screen may be the deal breaker - I really dislike the dam' things.

quixdraw…… I compared the D7200 with the D500 and without hesitation purchased the D500 for a number of reasons. I too dislike the touch screen, though I have a friend who initially hated his but has now grown to love it! I can see the occasional use for it - in the meantime, you're not locked into using the touch screen.....simply disable that function. Easy, however it's there should you ever need it.

Don't hesitate quixdraw…. for a million reasons, race out and grab one - you'll love it

Yes, I agree. I've never liked very wide range zooms for that reason. And I'm very impressed with the Tokina wide angle. For an off brand lens it's doing great things for me.

Thanks, Ken. Now I just have to get healthy and get back out there. I know I'm going to enjoy the camera. For some reason it just feels good in my hands.

You betcha! My wife isn't particularly happy about it either. I bought the D500 and a D610 on the same credit card bill She wasn't happy when I told her that now I have to start looking for full frame lenses too. She says I need to get healthy and out of the house more before we wind up in the poor house. I told her we can be taking great photographs while we're living on beans and weenies
Thanks, Mike

I have a D7100 and I like it. But no comparison with the D500.... you will see how sharp it is despite "only" 20 MP.

It's not the MP that determines sharpness. Resolution will allow you to print big but will not mean it is sharp.

It does have nice detail. I have a 7100 and 800 and each has their own useful purpose. The 500 is a nice body for sure. Enjoy.
