I love fractals. I have them as variable backgrounds on my computers and have a 4 hour set that I can run on a TV.

Is the source a secret? Surely, we would all like to know the download source. PLEASE...

I use the abstract photos I have been posting as my source photos. There are two different fractal programs in GIMP. One under "filters-render" which just creates a fractal from scratch. The other, "Filters-Map-Fractals Trace" which requires a photo.

FRACTAL -
a curve or geometric figure, each part of which has the same statistical character as the whole. Fractals are useful in modeling structures (such as eroded coastlines or snowflakes) in which similar patterns recur at progressively smaller scales, and in describing partly random or chaotic phenomena such as crystal growth, fluid turbulence, and galaxy formation.

This is a default fractal from the program. You can iterate once, ten times or more to get a more detailed pattern. I choose to use less which limits the repeats. It probably isn't a true fractal program in the true sense of the word.

There is no secret. Fractals are a sort of free style art and everyone seems to have a different technique. I use an inexpensive program called Ultra Fractals that I purchased on line. The program offers many different basic fractals (patterns) and a whole bunch of tools and formulas to manipulate the basic pattern. Of late I've changed styles from repetitive patterns to creating fractals with a hint of reality. I attached an example above. You can see the difference in styles between my work and another example that was placed in this posting. There's no right nor wrong.....just a great way to keep the creative juices flowing. If you would like more information PM me.

I too enjoy fractals. Sooooo additive. I think it would be fun to have a category on UHH just for fractals. I don't have enough experience to oversee it. Any suggestions? Do you think we could ask Linda from Maine?

There are many ways to vary the color and hue on these.

I'm not sure what this says, but whatever it is it speaks for itself.
