I use my previous abstracts as a starting point. Then I use GIMP which has a fractal program in it. Please don't ask the settings because they are pretty much infinite. I can use the same setting on different pictures and get completely different fractals.

Yes, SOOC photography is great! But then again I say No Good Photo Shall Go Unmolested. Abstract opens the door to seeing things not there, stimulating to the neurons and synapses.

Hello, I just Googled SOOC to learn what the acronym stands for. Also searched for GIMP and learned about the software.

So does the absolutely gorgeous photo above come from a "regular" (landscape, macro portraits) photo that has gone through the GIMP app? Can any photo be changed into a fractal?

Tank you in advance! Linda

These were all just regular photos I took of Antelope Canyon. People were doing twirl art so I tried it and it was too symmetric for me so I started hand adjusting the twirl art. It just got more complicated after that with hand manipulations and many many layers. The latest is taking my abstracts and running them through GIMP fractal program. It's too limited though. I'm going to have to search for a better one to use my photos with.

It's getting hard to vary these in GIMP

Thank you for your explanation.

I am not sure that these are really fractals. Here is the definition and these are more random art. While pleasing, they do not have the cell structure of a leaf for example, which is a fractal.

FRACTAL -
a curve or geometric figure, each part of which has the same statistical character as the whole. Fractals are useful in modeling structures (such as eroded coastlines or snowflakes) in which similar patterns recur at progressively smaller scales, and in describing partly random or chaotic phenomena such as crystal growth, fluid turbulence, and galaxy formation.

If there is a positive side to an addiction it has to be fractals. Love the colors and shapes and interesting designs in your work.

OK, OK, I will download GIMP... I can afford it since it is free!

Linda, Google has a free program... Deep Dreams
