Visit the kitchen-wares section of a 'Dollar store' and pick up a rubber jar opener. Should help you "get a grip". :-)

I like "coolcameragirl"s answer better. Why make a situation worse on an expensive lens to save a few shekels?

I have several of these filter wrenches to fit a range of filters. Never had to use them but it's good insurance.

Frankly, it sounds like the problem started by cross threading the filter on the lens in the first place. Be careful guys... We all know that the filters should go on easily and any resistance should initiate a retry to properly screw the filter onto the lens.

No prolong force. Image, for example, a four year old unscrewing the filter from a lens.

This should work for $12.89. Good luck!

I have a Nikkor 70-200 2.8 lens that I had attached a Hoya UV filter. After shooting in a dusty situation the other day, I attempted to remove the filter to clean the lens surface which had quite a bit of dust on it. The filter is stuck on the lens and I can't unscrew it to remove it. Yikes! Any recommendations. I don't want to damage trying to remove the filter.

Try buying a filter wrench from B&H. Check your lens for damage. Go to a local photo store and they will have those filter wrenches and likely take it off for free.

filter wrenches ---
Good advice
However that's why I stopped using the damn lens filters
Though I'll never be able to prove it ---- Even "think" I get better looking photos now without them

The easiest way I remove stuck lens filters from the lens is to wear a Playtex Living Glove on one hand, grip the filter with the gloved hand and twist. It works every time for me, and now I carry a Playtex Glove in my gadget bag "just in case."

Sometimes you can press the palm of your hand on the face of the filter, and turn it.

Completely irrelevant. Everyone likes to add their 2 farthings.

Found myself in a similar situation, filter stuck. I've used a thick rubberband like you find on a bunch of broccoli. Worked great.

Probably cross threaded.
