I sold a print and they took to store to find a frame. Then decided to have them make a wood grained photo on wood. The store which i think is Michaels wants my digital copy to do this. What do I need to do or not do..

Do you want to allow someone else to change your print? That would no longer be the print which you sold. As an amateur photographer and amateur artist I would not allow someone to alter my work.

If it was Michaels, I dont understand as to why they would want your digital copy. They are framing, not printing anyway. Correct??

I think the "print" needs to be done on a laser printer in reverse (L to R) so the laser print can be adhered to the wood, dried and the paper rubbed off, leaving the image on the wood.
The physical print the customer purchased cannot be used in this application/process.

It sounds like they want to transfer the print to a wood surface, not frame the print.

Thats correct the physical print can't be used.. They are going to pay to have done like a metal print.. So they need the digital.

It is the same print. But instead of mounting on a frame she would like them to do on metal which will require the print on flash drive.

I would simply verify with Michael's and the client that they understand it is a copyrighted print and only to be used in this instance, and the file is to be deleted upon completion of the work.

Would the client be returning the original purchase?
Otherwise, would it not be a second "print"?
Interesting situation...

Years ago I had something printed somewhere and I had to sign that the image was indeed mine.
I believe that Michael's would treat it as such anyway as mostly all printers respect the ownership of images. (For obvious legal reasons.)

You own the copyright. If they want the original file, They should buy it. That may of course, relinquish your right, unless you set up a contract allowing only a one time use and for only one print. You did not mention what the print was of, if it was a portrait of them of for them I would do it. If it isn't an original art work by you it prolly does not hold much more monetary value for you. Just Sayin. good luck :)
