The D500 is an excellent pro-grade camera and I have my eye on one too. A friend was kind enough to let me take it on a trip and I found its performance to be stellar in everyway that I used it. The autofocus speed is a beast for target acquisition. I believe the D500 to be among the best DSLR APS-C sensor camera presently on the market.

The fact that it doesn't have a pop-up flash is no disadvantage to me and it makes sense that it doesn't the same way and reason that the D3 through D5 did not and that is moisture resistance for the pop-up is a weak link in the camera's safeguard from moisture.

There is a trend toward no built in flash. Which I think makes sense.

I cannot comment on the D7500, but I can on the D500. I love this camera. I carry it with me everywhere. I have 2 other Nikons for backup, but I hardly ever touch them anymore. If you have some lenses that you really like that you have been using on the D7100, they will work even better on the D500, and then you could consider the "Body Only" option to save a little money. If I had to decide all over again, I would still pick the D500.

Certainly seems so, if you read the complete article.

I was in a similar position two years ago when I moved up to the D500 from my D7100. I have not missed a built in flash as I primarily concentrate on wildlife and landscapes. The D500's attributes are well documented in the other replies. The FPS and faster focus are well appreciated. I have also kept my D7100 as a backup which I use from time to time for those causal people shot events.

If you have the budget then you won't be disappointed with the D500.

I have the D-500. Great camera. I hope not having a built in flash is a deal breaker.

I have a nice Nikon D7100 camera and I like it but was thinking of updating it. I was still going to keep it as a backup. The two I’m looking at is the D7500 or the D500. I’m leaning towards the D500. The reason for that is the tilt screen and backlit buttons. It also supports a higher speed sd card. The negative it has no flash built-in. The main things I like taking photos are people, waterfalls, landscapes and was going to try night sky photography. I would like to hear from someone has has these camera and can tell me how they perform with long exposure of waterfalls and fast shutter speed for action shots.

I bought a D7000 about 6 or 7 years ago and upgraded to the D500 when it was introduced. The 3 or 4 times I needed flash on the D500, I used my little SB400. If you're shooting waterfalls, landscapes and night sky you really won't need a flash and for people shots you can always use an external flash on top. I chose the D500 after trying a D7200 and returning it because the D500 just did the job for me for sports and action shots and the amazing ISO range. My D7000 is still my backup but my D500 is my go-to camera. Hope that helps.
