Again, PhotoShop's PhotoMerge works great! I shoot in Auto and PS adjusts and merges seamlessly.

I got a free stitching program, PanoramaPlus, and it didn't always work, "Cannot find enough points in common." So, I bought the better version. The only difference was that I was out a chunk of money. Some people use it and like it. For me, it was a waste of time.

Canon's PhotoStitch is a free program that works perfectly. It comes (or used to come) free with Canon cameras. I had a copy of it, but I can't find it, and I can't find any place to download it. You will see it listed in a Google search, but I doubt that you will actually find the program.

Update: Canon used to have this available as a download, but they no longer do, and their customers are not happy about it.

I tried to find it, as well. Too bad, it sounds like that would have worked well for what I'm trying to accomplish. Thanks.

If you can find someone with a Canon camera, they should have that disc with the stitching program.

Guess what???? I got my Canon 30D boxes from my storage unit and the CD with PhotoStitch 3.1 is in there. I can't wait to try it. Thanks for all your suggestions and reminding me that I still had the Canon boxes........St Pete Linda

Have used the Pano feature on the Canon 30 many times. One thing I really like is that you really don't need to use a tripod. It has a leveling feature that shows you the horizontal level and the best match point for the next shot in the sequence. The owners manual has a good description on how to use it. Here is a photo of Crater Lake National Park taken July 1, 2011.
Have fun doing Pano's!

Or you can use a Sony a77 and use the panorama mode, hold the shutter button down, hand hold the camera, do your panning and let the camera stitch everything together in camera. Works great.

Use your 17 - 85mm depending on the type of landscape, set at 24mm. Use manual and manual focus. Set on tripod and ensure the camera is level, especially if there is likely to be an horizon. Shoot in portrait mode, this will avoid the typical letterbox style and shoot at least six exposures, allowing good overlap.
Elements 2 should be able to stitch them together, but save up and purchase Elements 10 when you can.

djmagicflorida,
Leicaflex hit it right on spot, follow his advice, manual is the key(unless you 'll leave that dumb camera do it itself)make sure tripod and cam are leveled in every ways ,good luck and later post it

realbohemian; take a look at the Sony results before you knock it I've been taking photos for over 30 years and I was impressed. But then I'm not that smart either.

i won't yell, but the newer programs for stitching do it automatically. I just tell it where the files are and after a minute or two, done!

That would work great for you; unfortunately (sometimes) I have chosen to stay with a version of PSE just slightly older than dirt. LOL

If you look around and are patient you can get the still photo only version for $50 from time to time.

Based on reported past history of nearly annual updates we can expect Phototoshop Elements (PSE) 11 to come out soon. Adobe's upgrade policy sucks...you can buy the new one from discounters for less than the upgrade. You'll probably have to pay $79 for the new one for a while though...and more from Adobe.

PSE 10 is very powerful software...Panoramas is one of the least used features. That power means complex...and thus a significant learning curve. Thus you need to be prepared to get some books and do some work to begin to get at its power. I recommend the book by Kelby and Kloskowski to get started. It took me from three months of frustration to happy camper in three days.

Tried to do a pano today. When I went through a book by Adobe, followed the steps and it worked well. That was using their practice set of slides, however Importnig from LR 4 however, is a different story. Ends up in an editor with sliders.Very messy, doesn't send back the pic to the right place, only accepts one photo from LR no matter how many you select, etc.

LR was tough but I now can use it easlily for what I need

Any hope for this vey frustrated guy?
