My Dad is definitely not as big as yours! I give up!!! As for TSA, be prepared for missing your flight and perhaps an opportunity to meet the police as well...

Cheers!

Thereā€™s a good chance someone from TSA will try to have you check it in with your luggage. A few years ago, I had a 1ā€ plastic Glock key chain. I had one idiot say it was a firearm (itā€™s a key chain) and it was confiscated. On another trip I had a pen size laser pointer, taken away. They deem it was a weapon and unless I checked it in, that would be confiscated. My luggage was already checked in, except for my briefcase, and they took the pointer.
Iā€™m all for security, but this was ridiculous.

The average education level of a typical TSA agent is some high school, if your lucky. Good luck with taking anything on board.

Hey Billnikon, I beg to differ. I know several who are university grads.

From my sailing experience I think only a fast shutter speed will keep your shots sharp. This would only magnify the movement of the boat on the water (I assume).

Let me tell you a story ...
I was in the Nairobi airport, returning home from my trip to Kenya. I wanted to bring back something for my kids (I am a volunteer in a local elementary school) I knew I could not bring back animal bones or feathers so I decides to bring back some small rocks; three rocks, each a bit smaller than a golf ball. After my carry-on luggage passed thru the scanner, I was called aside and my luggage was opened. The agent removed the rocks and was holding them in his hand (not his hands - one hand). He had a look that told me he was thinking. After about 20 seconds or so, he called over his supervisor and handed the rocks to him. The supervisor also started thinking! I'm standing there, just looking at these two guys. Finally I told them that I was a teacher and that the rocks were something I was bringing home to my kids. I said "Their just rocks". The supervisor responded, "No", "They are weapons". At first I thought it was funny but it actually did make sense. I am sure the TSA has a list of items that are not permitted on aircraft - I'm sure that on the list is GUNS. It probably does not spell out specific guns, like 22cal, or 347 magnum - just GUNS. On the list these guys were going by, there probably was a listing ROCKS. It probably did not spell out the size or weight - just ROCKS. That is what was causing the thinking I saw on their faces! It's also probably why the first guy called over his supervisor! Should they allow me on board with something that was on their banned list? They obviously realized the rocks were too small to be weapons, but the list they were bound by made no allowance; just like our list simply says GUNS. Finally the supervisor placed the rocks back into my luggage; he buried them inside of some clothing so I could not easily get to them, then he let me pass through to the plane.

Don't forget that a TSA agent confiscated a congressional medal of honor from the former governor of North Dakota, who was traveling to West Point to give the commencement speech, because he thought it looked like a ninja dart.

I often shoot out of a kayak and when using my superzoom bridge the slightest motion makes it hard to frame any shots. You might be holding things very steady but that boat is always moving.

That ain't nothin. This lens looks like it could be a weapon. Just kidding around! It looks like you've got a great setup with the gun stock. It looks like it would work very well.

I shouldn't really tell anyone but, that's my arm that was photo shopped in just for this picture. I'd recognize it anywhere!

That had a very different connotation in the Marine Corps. At least that was the information when I was a Navy corpsman attached with a Marine unit back in the day.

Our daughter had a machined metal ball point pen with her name engraved on it her boyfriend had given her for her birthday. She had flown 3 or 4 times with it, then on one flight They took it when she pulled it out of her pocket to sign a paper - "You could stab someone with it!" Same could be said of any pen or pencil.

I WANT ONE!!!!

It looks similar to one or another of the MDT rifle chassis, which can be seen here: https://mdttac.com/ca_en/mdt-chassis-systems/

Pretty pricey! The chassis alone starts around $400. The shoulder stock is sold separately. There are cheaper ones, but the really adjustable, lighter weight "skeletonized" stocks run close to $400 too. So figure up to $800... And that's before you've modified it to attach the camera and lens, somehow rigged a trigger that will work with an electronic release, etc.

Plus it will add at least 3 or 3.5 lb. to the weight of the camera & lens, making it a bear to hand hold and shoot with for very long.

All in all, I think I'll just keep using my tripods and gimbal heads.
