Just a quick thought. Do you think they pumped the price to "cover" the tax??

Just like they pump the price to cover any overhead. Part of doing business. Any business. Somebody, even non profits, have to cover overhead.

Business have to pay the taxes. Whether they pass it on to you is their decision.

This concept is alien to many people. Businesses are just collection agencies for the states. States couldn't care less if businesses collect sales taxes "separately" on purchases.

Note....states give the business a small piece of the tax amounts as a fee for being the collector.

To the contrary. Every added dollar in business cost, whether materials, labor, taxes, shipping costs, etc., lowers the profit of a company. It costs the business real dollars to add functionality to collect and remit taxes to over 10K jurisdictions. It's not a zero-sum transaction. Prior to the Supreme Court decision there was no reason for B&H to collect sales/use tax, except for New York sales. At some point the business has to lower its profit margin, or pass along those increased costs to the customer. And in the 21st Century, no one is going to pay a clerk to look up all these disparate sales and use tax rates, and manually apply them to their sales programs.

That B&H, or any other retailer, resorts to using incentives to maintain their business share percentage, is just another sales promotion. They anticipate increasing volume to compensate for lost revenue. However, this only lasts until Adorama, Cameta, Best Buy, etc., all trot out their versions.

I will not continue to argue your attempts to convince me or anyone else, that this is some big costly program for businesses to implement a sales tax program. It's old news and all that is happening is applying it to more states. You may wish to investigate software that has been around for years. That was the point of my post and your vast knowledge of the business world will not change my assertion.

I am completely with you. I too pay my fair share of taxes and have done so all my life. My problem is with that they end up being used for the wrong things instead to what they were meant to be used for.

LOL, in Ct, business pay a fee to the state for the privilege of collecting and remitting sales tax!

Using Payboo credit card give you a B&H discount amounting to what your state sales tax would be. If your state sales tax is 10%, then 10% discount on what you buy at B&H. If you live in a state with no sales tax, then no discount.

Really?? Well, that's CT for you. No income taxes, but you pay personal property taxes every year...I used to be surprised by the yearly tax bill for my car.

When I managed a small business here in NY, I got to keep part of the sales tax remittance. Tax was 8%, I "only" had to remit 7.5% (I think) to the state.

how can on line purchase save small shops. ????

Historically, one of the several reasons people shop online is to save the sales tax, which can be a significant amount on a high priced item like a camera or computer. The collection of sales tax is one of the reasons brick-and-mortar stores were less competitive then online vendors. As a result of this, there should be a small uptick in people purchasing at brick-and-mortar stores rather than online.
