Hi all.
My name is Ken King. I was born and raised in the north Florida city of Jacksonville. I am a retired Environmental Scientist with the City of Jacksonville, supervising the ambient air pollution program for about 20 years then initiating and supervising a program sampling for bio terrorism agents in the ambient air for about 10 years. My wife and I now live in western North Carolina in the city of Leicester.
I started photography with my first real camera (Minolta 101) and then transitioned to digital. My first digital cameras were the Sony DCS-H1 and DCS-H5 super-zoom (at the time) point and shoot cameras. I now use a Sony A-65. My area of interest is nature photography, specifically macro/close-up, sunrises (being from the east coast of Florida), birds, frogs....heck anything that provides an interesting subject.
I love early mornings and late afternoon when taking photos. The lighting at those times of day are magical in my opinion. All my photos are taken hand held, in the wild and in natural light unless stated otherwise. Most photos are adjusted for lighting, contrast, sharpness and cropping if needed. All post processing is made using Picasa 3, PhotoFiltre 6.2.3 and Noiseware 2.6...all freeware. Sometimes Gimp 2.8 is used for special treatments...also freeware.
I hope to share, learn and make new friends.
Welcome to the forum.
The 101 was a great camera.
I STILL have and use my Sony H1!
I used to live north of Orlando.
Looking forward to seeing some of your images.

Welcome Ken. Your story is the same as about 90% of us here -retired or nearly retired. Hope you have a thick skin and a sense of humor. It can get rough at times but just laugh it off. For a bunch of folks with one foot in the grave some take things too seriously.
Post some pics so we know what you are capable of.
Nice to meet you Longshadow. Yeah, the 101 was a nice camera. I'll be posting a lot as I've been on Flickr for about 13 years.
Thank you Mike. Nice to meet you.
Hi repleo. No problems. As you know, you don't get to our age without developing a hard shell!
Thank you Vince68, joehel2 and jerryc41. Glad to meet y'all.
Welcome to the Forum, Ken, enjoy.

Welcome to the Forum, Ken! My first camera was also a Minolta SRT-101, and first digital camera was the Sony DCS-85 (with a whopping 4.1 megapixel sensor). Absolutely loved both cameras. I now shoot Fuji MILC.
Recently scanned some 35mm slides shot in the 70’s/80’s on Kodachrome 25 film, and after PP they looked like they were shot yesterday ... actually better.
I hope you enjoy the forum as much as I do. Lots of very talented folks who are willing to share their knowledge. Enjoy.
Thank you MikeMck. Glad to be here.
