I agree. It is not easy to achieve technical perfection and visual appeal in the same photograph. I use one rule, it's what you like no matter the reason. I see the appeal in #7 from a technical difficulty standpoint, but it just doesn't grab my eye and make me want to come back for more. I think the background is what I find so good in 6.
yup...Isn't it great when you see something through the lens and as you are focusing you're mentally celebrating....I LOVE IT!!!!
I have to agree with all the cattail fans. Not only do they make a startling background for the egret but this picture is truly unique among egret images. Best of luck in the competition...
thank you very much forbescat….I'm starting to agree with the majority
Vic, they are all we wonderful. I favour #6. You should pick the one you like best, not what others think. Good luck.

10 recent captures of Great White Egrets. If you have the time please tell me your favorite(s). I am entering a photo contest and greatly value your opinions. I appreciate you looking....Vic and Sally
I prefer the in-flight pictures; they show motion. I like #1 and #6 the best of those. Since the bird is a
Great White Egret subconsciously one might expect its picture to show it as such - white in color, which leaves out #10. #9 has the wings just leaving their upmost position creating the illusion of work, leaving it out. #1 and #6 have blurred backgrounds which make the Egret stand out from the rest of the picture details, however #6 gives an added layer with the bird passing in front of the cattails(which are for the most part in focus) thereby giving greater depth to the picture but not taking away from the main subject - the Egret. The in-flight pictures minus #9 give the viewer a sense of effortless, floating and gliding on the wind if you will - something most if not all of us have wanted to try at one point or another in our lives. #7(I think) is out due to its coloration factor as mentioned above. As has been said they are ALL nice but,
I like the cattail one the best.

When I talked about #7 I was thinking of #8 and how the shadow on the bird itself gives it a blueish tint.
#7's color is not quite white and it causes the Egret to somewhat blend in with the water. I do like the effect of the light coming through the spread out feathers but to me there is not enough separation between the bird and background. I still go with the cattails and Egret.

I'm gonna go with the overwhelming majority and both enter #6 in the contest and Sally and I are gonna hang out in the reeds more! Thank you all..."it makes me want to be a better …)
So what was your personal favorite?
number 2...it looks so regal and proud spreading it's wings and the beautiful feathers and the tail feathers hanging down...just not much eye and could be a better background...I'll get one!
