I have PSE 10 and don't use it much as I find it confusing ,got an offer from Adobe to buy the full cs6 for $299 . I think i should do it for the future ,I use lightroom 4 a very lot . I don't know if elements is enuff or all I need but for $299 maybe I should get it .

Thanks for any advice

If you find PSE10 confusing then you will find CS6 confusing. Yes, CS6 does a lot more than PSE but you need to learn the basics of PSE first. Get a book on PSE. Read it and learn how to use the features that interest you. Then decide if you want to spend $300 on CS. A good book is The Missing Manual for PSE. I've read it twice and its easy to understand.

PSE and CS work almost exactly the same. Copy, cut, paste, quick mask, selections, layers, text, paint, clone, erase all work exactly the same in both programs. These are the basics and you need to learn them well before you step up to a more advanced tool. It's just that CS has more options and has other more advanced features that will just boggle your mind.

I love Elements 10 and my only desire is to have a more powerful content aware fill. When I saw the bargain price on CS6 I bought it, BUT, I will not open it until Elements 11 comes out (rumors say September). If PSE 11 has a more powerful content aware fill, I will sell the unopened CS6. If it doesn't, I will install and use CS6 (the CS6 content aware fill is awesome). Before I bought PSE 10 I was using CS5, but it has way. way, way to many features than I need.

When I was using PE, I downloaded a curves plug-in that worked quite well. I think it was free, or was only a very nominal cost. Can't remember the name or source of it, but they are available.

I have Elements 9 that I use all the time; last week I watched a live 3-day webinar showcasing CS6, and if I had the money I'd jump all over that deal in a heartbeat! The curves function is superb!!

I've used the content aware fill in CS6, and I have to say I'm kind of underwhelmed. I think it works great when the conditions are right, but for large complex areas, it's just okay in a pinch. I realize, of course, the software can't perform "miracles". Personally, I'd rather control content in the camera frame whenever possible.

Regardless, if you have both software packages and you aren't suffering financially for it, you can install both PSE 10 and CS6. You probably know this, so sorry if I'm insulting your intelligence.

Does the content aware function work differently in CS6 as in CS5?.....just curious. Haven't upgraded to 6 yet.

PIcasa is simple and free and has added some new stuff. If you don't trust your eye, camera and law of averages---spend the money!!!

I googled scott kelby and found a free tutorial on CS6. Adobe added a cool feature that allows one to select the content aware fill area rather than use what is adjacent to the area you want to replace.

With Elements 10 you have 95% of cs6 and about 80% of lightroom already. Once you learn elements, you will be set. Spend your money elsewhere. Lol.

You need to Kebly and Kloskowski's book on Elements 10 and work through the examples. I was frustrated with Elements for three months. This book made me a happy camper in three days.

The last thing you need it Photoshop.

Amazon offers photoshop elements 10 manual for either windows or apple and you can buy a new edition or a good condition used. . I bought elements 8 and it cost me $17.00 and was in good condition. Contacting them costs could be worthwhile

No matter which of these PS programs you end up with there is nothing more helpful than the on line tutorials and a good book on the program. I worked my way up thru PS5.5 and PS7 on line while living in Mexico - internet saved me - I have PS7 & CS4 and use only a bare minimum of their content - but I would not trade the pleasure I get from these programs for anything. Buy the PSE program as that is all you will need for years.
A lot of PS is like learning algebra - tough to start with but when you get the hang of a few tools it is a breeze.

Here is a link comparing the features http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopfamily/buying-guide-version-comparison.html

I have never bought Adobe products full price, always at educational discount when I'm taking a just-for-interest class. The price offered if for the Extended version is very good-about the same as an educational discount.

As to the suggestions to try non Adobe products, I would avoid it, not because they are worse-they aren't. It's because there are at least five to ten times as many tutorials for PSE and PS as for any of the other products. It's not that I'm a member of the Adobe Church, I started on Corel Paint Shop Photo X3 (still have it) but I got frustrated very quickly to discover how little help on the internet there is for it and how much there was for PS and PSE.

If classroom training is your learning style then definitely get Photoshop because there just isn't classroom training for any of Photoshop's competitors.

Ditto. Once you become accustomed to the full Photoshop, you can never go back to Elements. The power and control at your fingertips in CS6 puts every other photo editor in the shade. It does have a learning curve but ascending it will prove worthwhile.
