I like the chart as well, when I tech this class for community education I also set up the camera on a tripod in aperture priority and fixed ISO. I have two stuffed animals, one close up and one far away and a fan in the middle. With the camera focused on the fan I start at a small aperture and work my way to wide open so the can look at the chart to see the numbers changing and also see the depth of field change and as the aperture opens up the fan blades start to be more defined as the shutter speed increases. The get an immediate visual of how shutter speed can freeze or blur motion and aperture affects depth of field.

I'm glad it worked out for you, especially with a lack of cell phones.

This is one of several responses that was posted in comments about the class. Thank you so much for the insight you presented at the workshop. I thought I'd be in over my head but was pleasently surprised at the logical approach...if you do this than this happen... action-reaction. Enjoyed the class and was worth the drive from Mobile. Thanks again.🤗 Mobile is probably about 75 miles away from where the class was held.

I can get an app for my iPhone that allows me to make settings manually just like a "real camera". Would that be OK in your class?

I am not going to turn away anyone that wants to learn but I am way to far away from you to attend my class.

I just thought that I would report that around thirty something people attended my class last night. All brought real cameras, not cell phones, and before the class ended I made sure everyone could change these settings and change shooting modes and understood how each worked. This is a handout I made that each person received that I hope helps them understand the different settings and how the affect the photo they are taking. I made all settings one full stop apart so it would be easier to relate how each of the setting affected the amount of light. I left out the in between settings to keep it easier to follow and cut down on confusion. I received a lot of positive feedback and managed to get everyone in the class feeling a lot more comfortable with taking more control of their camera. I think everyone had a good learning experience and I am looking forward to my next class in the future.

One vital error: Changing ISO changes only effective sensitivity — It has no effect on the amount of light used to make the exposure.

To reduce the compromise, change either the volume of light on the scene (via scrims, diffusers, flash, floods, blinds, dimmers...) or the volume of light entering the lens (by using ND or CP filters, for example).

The handout is only one part of the class. I posted a link so everyone could see each of the slides I use in my presentation and I will post the slide here on ISO. Note the first line in RED and what it says. The handout is only a part of the presentation and is correct when included with all the information in my presentation.

Thanks for showing interest in my information.
