Around 4:30AM this morning the power goes out! Oh well, back to sleep! Woke up around 7:30ish, looked out the front bedroom window to see this. A very old maple tree finally met it's maker and toppled taking out the power lines! All fixed now but have to deal with tree removal! Anyone want FREE firewood?!

From my experience, when a tree guy takes down a tree, he charges extra to leave the wood there. Tree cutters usually sell firewood. Although I'd love to bring all that wood home, the drive is way too long.

If I wasn't in Idaho I would gladly take the stump and 8 feet of the wood. I am not sure if you realize it or not but the stump and first 6-8 feet are worth a lot of money in gunstocks. Maple was used to make the early flintlock rifles and fowlers in America. Might I suggest you contact a gun company such as Remington, Winchester (certainly close to you I believe) and ask for information on selling that piece of wood. I am talking some possibly thousands of dollars.

Just a suggestion,

My inclination on what do with the trunk were our tree needed taking down would be to decide if the trunk could be made into chainsaw art, like St. Urho.
