Am interested to purchase an NDTP 1 tripod by Nikon - but it is only sold in Japan - any thoughts on how I could get this tripod? Thanks
I looked at it. It is not designed for use with cameras so I'd be more inclined to look at offerings from Manfrotto or Benro. JMHO.
Last November (2018) I found one from: <goods-store01>, 63" with head.
Right now, <Cameta auctions> has a Nikon 60" for $60 on Ebay.
I was at Map Camera last Saturday.
Thank you all - good ideas - will try to contact the Japanese camera store - will let you know results.
I just looked at their website, they do not sell to over-seas customers , only to ones w Japanese address, thank you.
specifically, you found that the NDTP 1 does not mount or designed SLR's?
May I have the website, where you found this?

Why that specific tripod?
I looked for any info on it, but couldn't find any and have no idea what might make it special or in some way better than other tripods.
Chances are that Nikon doesn't actually make it. I doubt that Nikon makes any tripods. They probably just outsource it from another manufacturer and have the Nikon name printed onto it. I bet you can find the exact same thing selling under another brand name.
Outsourcing for accessories such as tripods (and batteries, memory cards, filters, yada, yada) is a common thing among camera manufacturers. Plus with outsourced items they often significantly mark up the price, charging quite a bit more for the "name brand" than it can be purchased for elsewhere under another name. For example, Canon filters are nothing special... not bad, but also not particularly great.... and as best I can determine, none of them have multi-coating... Yet they are among the most more expensive. An uncoated, 77mm Canon Circular Polarizing filter, with unknown type of "optical glass" in a common aluminum frame sells for $195. In comparison a top-rated, 16-layer "Nano" multi-coated, 77mm B+W XS-Pro "High Transmissive" Circular Polarizing filter using well-known German Schott glass in a slim brass frame costs $100. I have no idea who actually makes Canon filters... probably Kenko/Hoya and equivalent to one of their more entry-level models like Hoya "Alpha" Circular Polarizer ("optical glass", "aluminum frame", uncoated) which sell for $61 in 77mm size. But, hey, if you just gotta have a Canon filter to use on your Canon lens, they'll happily sell you one for a big chunk of money!
It appears to me that the tripod is a Nikon tripod designed for telescope/binocular and is sold thru Nikon Sport Optics division and not the photographic division.
Thanks for the informative points. Well taken.

Check it out and buy it on eBay Japan.
Every major country has it's own eBay web site.
https://www.ebay.co.jp/Sometimes an item is less expensive on another nations eBay site.
