Can someone id this bird. Seen flying over Omaha Ne today. Bird was flying away from me and into the sun. Approx 3-400 yards away. Taken with canon 5d mk iv and EF 100-400 II lens. Tried to sharpen and bring out details the best I could. Thanks.
It's a little hard to tell it might be a red-tailed or red-shouldered Hawk but it's very difficult for me to tell. I was just looking at its beak as best I could.

It's a Turkey Vulture. If you zoom in, you can see the bald head (a face only a Mother could love).
I don't know what this is but I am pretty sure what it is not. Not a Turkey vulture. A turkey vulture has almost no neck, red head and its wings angle forward towards the tips. The pattern of light and dark on the underwing surfaces is very similar though.
HMMMM! When I look at the OP's photo in DDL, it may well be a Turkey vulture from an unusual angle. The wings do look different in profile though
Definitely not a red-tail hawk or zone-tailed hawk. In each case, the tail feather pattern is much more distinct. If it were a bald eagle, you would be able to pick out the distinctive white head and white tail feathers.
There are only a few birds with a similar size and shape to the turkey vulture. Turkey vultures have pale feathers on the underside of their flight feathers, giving them a two-tone appearance, which is seen in your picture pretty clearly.
The only other bird it could be (in my opinion) is a golden eagle, and the coloring and wing shape is not quite right for that either. But with a little photoshop, you can have yourself a good picture of a golden eagle...

Download and zoom in on the head. 100% turkey vulture.
All who said "Turkey Vulture" are correct. "Black Vultures" do not have the red head.
I believe it to be a buzzard of some type....not sure which?
