Can someone id this bird. Seen flying over Omaha Ne today. Bird was flying away from me and into the sun. Approx 3-400 yards away. Taken with canon 5d mk iv and EF 100-400 II lens. Tried to sharpen and bring out details the best I could. Thanks.

I am definitely in the turkey vulture/buzzard camp myself. It definitely has the red head and beak that is so well known for that bird. Definitely not in the hawk type of bird. Besides I have eaten hundreds of them. Oh wait...

Perhaps a Black Vulture with red feeding residue on his beak. Turkey Vultures have more of a full red head than what can be observed in the example.

Please don't call vultures Buzzards, like Bison and Buffalo, totally different species.

It is indeed a Turkey Vulture. I was wrong to doubt it.

In America and especially in Florida they're buzzards....when someone refers to a 'buzzard', it usually means a turkey vulture or black vulture, a member of the New World vultures. When I see a buzzard at a distance, I have no idea if its a turkey vulture or a black vulture, hence, its a buzzard...Cheers

While you are technically correct, the terms bison and buffalo have been and will continue to be used interchangeably. So it is between buzzard and turkey vultures. I copied this from the Internet:

Turkey Vultures are known as Buzzard in North American region, mostly found from southern Canada to the South America. Its a New World vultures that inhabits a variety of open and semi open areas and has very few natural predators.

You are welcome. The article I googled said the very same thing, that these birds were called buzzards in Florida.

I want to thank everyone for their replies. I was trying to get a photo of a couple of hawks that live in the area and when I did, I noticed that this bird was very different looking. I didn't know that the turkey vulture was known to be in my area. Again thank you all for the info.
