You only "kinda" liked it? Sounds like a little bit of jealousy. That picture is beautiful.

My wife Mrs. Swamp Gator, took this shot of a Great Egret yesterday and I kinda liked it.
She used her Canon 50D and my old Canon 300 f4 which she inherited.
Go easy on her, but don't be too nice to her. We don't want her getting all full of herself. :-)

I love the compostion, it's fab. The lighting coming in off the water is great.

Now, you said not to be to easy on her, so here is personal point of view. Your a great photographer and have a lot more experience then me, so you can take this with a grain of salt.

How do you think the picture would look if she just lighten the shaded areas of the bird just a touch? It looks a little to deep in color around the head and neck to me. I realize that the contrast may be a little less striking. But it's a little hard to see his face to me. I would want a little more notice going towards the face, if it were my picture.

Overall I want you to let your wife know that I would kill to get a shot like that. Very well done, Beautiful.

Heh Mrs. SG thanks you!
Jealousy?? Oh it's much worse then that. You should see some of her other pics (I'll post more at some point)
If I had a business she would be putting me out of it. 8-) :D
And she has only been doing bird and wildlife photography for maybe a year, and had no prior camera experience at all.

It is a beautiful image. I just can't figure out what those white specs are unless it was something on the lens or sensor or some type of lens flare.

These are some really awesome images. They are really beautiful. As some of the other posters have said Mrs. Swamp Gator has a lot of talent. She should try to sell some of these images to some of the nature magazines or stock photo agencies.

Are you talking about that first Egret pic?
The bird had splashed a bit while taking off and those white dots are backlit suspended water drops.

Wow Mrs Swamp Gator has the gift also. If you have children they should be super photographers getting hit with the photo gene twice.
