I understand where you are coming from. I am 79 and have COPD and Parkinson's Disease which creates some mobility issues. I mainly do nature photography and need to get off the pavement most of the time. I experimented with roller camera bags (too small rollers, no seat) and 3 wheeled baby joggers (hold lots of gear, big wheels, but still no seat) and finally ended up with a rollator walker that satisfies the 3 requirements of gear, seat, and a limited off road capability and a reasonable weight and cost. I chose a Evolution Trillium walker from Amazon. It has 8 inch wheels that can be locked, and room for a DSLR and a couple of lenses, portable oxygen concentrator, water, light jacket and a snack. The wheel size is what determines your off the road capability - bigger is better to handle obstacles like sand, rocks and tree roots etc. It weighs ~15 pounds empty and folds up for placing in a vehicle or storage. Now to add a cane holder attachment for my monopod or tripod.

I have been extremely pleased with this setup as it allows me to practice my craft outdoors again!

I am overwhelmed with the amount of useful reply's almost 4 pages and only two reply's from people who must think old age and failing health is a joke, I am sure they will have their turn. Before I have to spend a bunch of money I will use what I have here. A two wheeled dolly with 8 inch wheels and a backpack and I will weld a seat on the dolly. Once again many many thanks for your reply's. REJ.

There are some comment here. If it is necessary to move over a non paved surface big wheels are necessary. I have some tools that have small wheels and if they have to bemoved to the back of my property they travel to the back on my lawn tractor trailor. Is an adult tricycle a possibility?

I too have very bad back (age 75) and use combo cane/seat-three legged and very light-250lb. capacity and retrofitted a simple small suitcase wheeled with a sectional cocoon which I purchased on line. PS I also use mirrorless camera (Sony) and all purpose pocketable P/s zoom and do quite well with them.

I actually have a monopod I strap to the roller and it makes a great camera mount. We don't need no stinkin tripod.

Please, the smartass answers I can do without. I am reaching the age where carrying even a small bag is taking all the joy out going for a short walk along the fence lines. I find that no matter what camera and lens I take with me there will be a once in a lifetime shot that I have the wrong lens for. So if I had a bag with wheels I could drag along the extra lens, as far as the seat goes, this area in the last couple of years was crawling with ticks so I can't see myself setting in the grass trying to get a good Macro shot. I was just looking through the latest Photo news and I seen a picture of a camera bag with wheels, so maybe a seat is not to much to ask for. Thanks in advance. REJ.

I just use my Pelican case; sturdy to sit on at two heights, but the wheels might not be big enough.

I think your DIY idea is awesome. Lots of other great ideas, too!

I have a rolling Porter Case. Large enough for my equipment, folds down to use as a hand cart, and can be used as a small seat.

I have seen people with soft-sided roller bags that have a seat. While the one I saw were not designed for cameras, I'm pretty sure you could buy an insert that would work. Lowepro and others make rolling camera bags that have an insert for all of the padding (no padding on the case itself), so an insert from one of these bags might work.

REJ:

My father uses a walker that has wheels and essentially a seat so that if he gets tired he can turn around and sit down.
Start with something like this because I suspect finding a safe and roomy walker is your first chore and then work on the camera bag. Reusable cable ties would let you attach a bag and then remove it later.

Good luck and thanks for reminding all of us how photography can be a lifelong hobby.

Here's something that may be adapted and attached to a rolling case.

Lugging long lens is difficult at the best of times. The lens need to be readily accessible from the bag.

I think this a great idea, hope you come up with something.

I have that same problem. I bought a collapsible coaster wagon and a small folding seat. Works well so far.
