That would be the same very old person who told his friend" see that animal in the field with those things hanging down in the back, I am going over and squeeze one and drink whatever comes out.
Oysters are fantastic! As a local restaurant says, stewed or nude. Nothing better than a freshly shucked cold raw oyster. I like them fried properly, just lightly fried with a warm/soft middle.
In the last few years oysters have been farmed and are reaching commercial production. At the present time you have to buy a box (about 150). Friend lives near a farmer and purchased a box last Easter. He even shucked them, what a treat. Easter is coming up in a few weeks and this thread reminded me might be in for another treat.
For me no crackers with my oysters, just oysters and a light dip of sauce.
Maybe I could be the Forrest Gump of oysters, after all Bayou la Batre is close.
Who was the first being who thought a lobster was something to EAT?
It was probably a cocktail sauce maker looking for another market for theie product.😎

An ex girlfriend on trying an oyster for the first time, spat it straight out and declared 'I'd rather swallow semen'. 'Suits me, these cost a pound each'!

Food aversions are strange things. I know people who can't stand any fish or seafood, milk, lima beans, etc. I don't really like green beans, but will eat them if in a medley of other vegetables. Did not like asparagus when younger, but now love it. For a time did not like pumpkin pie, now like it. Took a long time to eat avocado, now love it. Lots of people don't like liver, even with onions or bacon. I like it both ways. I have a recipe for lamb curry that people who don't like lamb will eat. I'm a pretty adventurous eater, but have not tried tripe and don't intend to.
I can sit and watch a friend buying oysters and swallowing them, the ones that turn my stomach is seeing a person put one in his mouth and just chew away!
We live where oysters abound and are relatively cheap. I have eaten them fixed various ways and loved them all. Of course beer goes along with every recipe.

The same person who saw a hen lay an egg and say "hey, I think I'll eat the next thing that comes out of that bird's ass!

I've heard back in colonial times in America, tomatoes were thought to be poisonous.

That is true. Tomatoes are in the same family as the deadly nightshade. This is why they thought that.
I have always loved raw or cooked oysters and clams. Feel free to send me money or gift certificates for any you don’t want.

I took a class in biology while in college. My professor was the worlds authority on oysters at that time. He said, "If you knew all that I know about oysters, you would never eat one alive or dead."
Do you realize that when you eat an oyster, you are eating the ENTIRE animal? Gonads, stomach, kidney, what passes for a liver, gills, intestines (and oyster s#$$%t in them), and need I go on??? I ate them until my Zoology class dissected one and then I vowed never to eat another guts bag again.... Same for clams and mussels, yuck.....
