Very nice shots. Homer has been a great spot for eagles for a long time.
For over 30 years one woman, Jean Keene, made Homer, AK the place to photograph Bald Eagles. The Inn at the end of the Homer Spit gave her a table so folks could meet her. I had that opportunity in '04. Unfortunately she died in '09.
Since about 1977, Jean Keene fed bald eagles beside the trailer where she lived on the Homer Spit, primarily in the winter. Her offerings of frozen herring led to a reliable gathering of bald eagles during these months, sometimes hundreds on a given morning, as the eagles grew to anticipate and rely on this source of food. Photographers have long known of this gathering and have exploited it to produce superb images of bald eagles. In 2006 the Homer city council adopted a regulation forbidding anyone from feeding the eagles, with the exception that Jean Keane was permitted to continue feeding through 2010. When Ms. Keene passed away in January 2009, her friend Steve Tarola was authorized to continue feeding the eagles in her stead through the end of March 2009.

Thank for the information on the history of bald eagles in homer. Actually none of these images were created within the city limits of Homer, all on the other side of the bay. And yes, in order to get this stuff we shared our fish. One would complain, but in all honesty, what is the difference in having a feeder in your back yard. We did limit our time with them to no more than 2 hours and we were gone.
