Last summer while digging for utility lines, they found the remains of two Civil War soldiers on Manassas Battlefield. They had a transfer of remains at the site to Arlington Cemetery. Two months later they were buried in the new expanded section of the cemetery.

I didn't know that, Kcimato! Thank you for sharing.

I’ve been there several times and have always been impressed by the ceremony and the dedication of the men who take part. Regardless of the errors in the original post these soldiers deserve our admiration and respect. Touring the cemetery is sobering.

So very true, Dannj. I was astounded by the fact that service
men and women from every war are buried in this cemetery
and that there are over 400,000 interred here.

Thank you Rolk. These guys really are the Real Deal. They recently were issued Sig Saur pistols to wear as well and there are only 4 I believe total and specially serial-numbered.

Great images and always a worth while site to see at our nat.cemetry. Really special.

Thank you for the photos, that is the most comprehensive collection I have seen. Very sobering display of dedication and heroism in a age of pettiness and silliness.

Thank you for sharing these great photos of a very special place, and the dedicated members of the Old Guard that have volunteered to serve there. I've been there once and took a few black and white photos that are still on my office wall. Yours are better than mine.

Nice set, do you have a photo of the tomb itself?

It is an impressive ceremony and there are usually no problems with the crowd. Apparently the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace is fraught with hecklers and idiots!

I agree, Jcofer...

The "Changing of the Guard" is always jammed packed with
spectators, most all of which were very sober and respectful.

I almost felt disrespectful with the shutter noise from my DSLR....
