I had the opportunity to spend 5 days photographing Bald Eagles in Homer Alaska during the first week of March. What a treat. Living most of my life in the Southwestern part of the country, I never had the opportunity to spend much time with these amazing birds. Hope you enjoy. Constructive criticism is alway welcome.
All but one of these images were taken with a Sony a9 and for the most part the Sony 100/400 GM. Pretty amazing equipment IMO and just got better with the new version 5 firmware.

Very nice inflight captures.
You got some amazing shots!
Awesome set of photos. Was there a reason for picking the month of March and the location of Homer?

From what I understand there are a couple of reasons on the timing. Firstly, in early March (we were there the first week) there is still the possibility of snow and one of the objectives was to try to catch them in the snow. Unfortunately we didn't get snow, just some rain. Secondly, if you go earlier, there is more. possibility of bad weather which could keep you from getting out on the Kachemak Bay. We traveled via a small landing boat to several locations around the bay the find the eagles. And third, once things start to warm up in the interior, and the lakes start to thaw, the birds start to go inland for breeding so the concentration starts to drop. I will say, in early March, even on the coast, there is the possibility of pretty cold weather. I've always lived in the SW part of the states, so took me a bet bucks to get the right gear to be prepared. Hopefully, I'll use that stuff again. I hate to buy stuff and never use it again.
Why Homer? I went with a group and that is what the leader, who has been photographing these birds for years, had organized.
Thanks for the look and glad you enjoyed these. There are lots more that hopefully will share.
Fantastic images of our majestic National Bird and all that it stands for.

Thank you for the explanation. High on my Bucket List is the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve at Haines, AK for similar reasons. The concentration of Eagles is best at the preserve in mid November, and that would be darn cold for an ole NM Boy. I may need to rent you heavy jackets.
Gracias, Norm
Great set ......Alaska has a lot of these birds and you have plenty of subjects to catch.
more please and thanks ahead of time
