I have INTREX with an i7-4770 @3.4GHz, 32GB, SSD drives, GTX1070 6GB. After turning the graphics card I was able to process photos in 5-8 sec. with Topaz Sharpen AI. Saving the photo takes about 20 sec. Key to using this application is the graphics card.

On my computer with a GTX 2070 both Gigapixel and Sharpen are fast. I suspect a fairly inexpensive GTX 1050 would work well, too. Sort of eliminates notebook computers. The price of progress.

Thanks guys, it seems you need higher end CPU & GPU's otherwise it will turn your images into a waiting game. I'm sure it will compound the problem if you owned a D850 or a 5Ds*.

go to the upper left of the program window to "FILE". Go down to "PREFERENCES" and change the defualt processing mode from GPU to CPU-makes all of the difference in the world.

For me , it's the opposite . Opened a photo in AI Sharpen using my 6gb GPU graphic card took 2 sec , 4 sec to save . Switched to my CPU 6 core / 12 thread running at 4.3ghz took 10 sec , 23 sec to save . My system was built by me

These apps seem to do best when used with high level GPU. 4gb or more. Look at requirements.

As I mentioned on another thread a week or so ago, try switching from GPU to CPU and that should speed up your processing. I made the switch, but after the last upgrade from Topaz yesterday, I switched back to GPU and it perhaps sped the processing back up. But I just do NOT currently have (nor did I ever have) the exceedingly slow issues that everyone else complains about. It takes my Mac about 1 minute to process the image with Sharpen AI and then another minute to fine tune and save the image back to LR. Either this "10 minute" rant is an exaggeration or you must be running the slowest PC in the world or you have a very little RAM. Again, I do not have issues with a long processing time--2-3 mins is very acceptable to me for the results that it achieves. By the way, I am running an iMac built mid-2011, a 3.4 GHz i7 processor, and 32 GB of RAM and Sierra OS. How's that for an 8 year old computer?

An idea just popped into my head to determine how many desktop Mac users are having problems with Sharpen AI? I cannot image trying to do any serious processing on a laptop PC---it's like driving your golf cart to the grocery store......

Running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, i7 processor, 24GB memory, 1TB SSD drive for operating system and programs, 2TB HDD for data, nVidia graphics with 4GB of memory.

I use Topaz Studio with several of the Pro adjustments including AI Clear. On a RAW image the AI Clear will take about 10-15 seconds. On a jpg it will take about 4-5 seconds. Sharpen AI will take about 15-20 seconds on a normal size jpg and about 30-45 seconds on a TIFF of the same image. While Sharpen AI can read RAW files it cannot currently save from them. Hopefully it will soon. Some files take less time and some take more. It has to do not only with the size of the file, but the complexity of the image. The AI products use artificial intelligence. As such, they are analyzing your image to make its adjustments at a much deeper level than other software. They use mathematical algorithms to do much of this so there are millions of calculations taking place. This is very demanding of your hardware. That is why it either will not run on some systems and slowly on others. It isn't a defect in the software, it's just that your hardware isn't up to the task. Here is a link to their website that talks about how their software runs and why they have designed it this way. It also shows you the minimum and recommended hardware and the graphics adapters it will run with and those it will not. This is for Studio and the stand alone products have their own set if you are only interested in those.

It is great software and I hope this helps those who are interested.

Had same problem even after making the recommended changes posted here. Uninstalled. Don’t need the headache

I don't use it (yet) but have heard from others that it can, indeed, be very slow. Will be interesting to hear on this from other users....

I have the same issue - considering the small adjustment by the app it seems to take forever on my Imac 27 inch late 2014 computer. Hope they can do something about this in any future updates. It will teach me to go for the trial in the future before committing to buy.

Windows 10
Intel Core i7-8700K Coffee Lake 6-Core 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz Turbo) CPU
64 GB Ram
GeForce STRIX-GTX1060-O6G-GAMING 6GB 192-Bit GDDR5 graphics card
All solid state drives

Sharpen AI processes changes in settings that occur in the 100% view in seconds with Photoshop and Lightroom running in the background. Saving the entire finished file takes maybe a minute.

I have a late 2012 Mac Mini with an upgraded 512 GB SSD drive, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 16 GB of DDR3 memory, and an Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 Mb on Mac OS Mojave. Admittedly, not the biggest beast in the zoo, but certainly powerful enough for most photographic applications. I use PS and ACR with Topaz Studio and NIK plugins, and have had no issues with processing speed or saving to virtually any format.

That being said, AI Sharpen gives wonderful results, but is incredibly, unworkably slow on my machine. For example, I tested it on a .jpg image, made one small change in the Stability setting, and then Save As. I left the computer when the progress wheel said 17%. I went out, got a cup of coffee, a bite to eat, took the dog out, and came back approximately 10 minutes later - and the progress wheel read 63% - seriously! I have tried running in GPU and CPU modes, with GPU being superior in speed but both insufferably slow. AI Clear works very well with PS as the host program, but AI Sharpen is pretty much worthless to me because of the speed issue. And I don't want to spend upwards of $1000 for a new machine just to use this one plugin. When they build it better, I will come...

And with your grand beast of a computer, that's what it should do! But for the rest of use without massive gamer-quality processors, RAM and GPU's , well, too bad for us I guess...

Yep, just like all of you without mirrorless.

Sharpen AI is still better at creating well processed photos than I am in Photoshop. Until I gain the requisite skills in PS and maybe even after that I am going to use AI as my go to sharpening tool.
