All to do with Reflection and refraction, in simple terms
Reflection is bouncing light back off a surface, like looking at yourself in a shop window
Refraction is the light going through say a glass object and either breaking it up into red green and blue or changing the speed that the light travels at hence distorting the image as shown so well with the soup spoons in the wine glasses put on here by Sunnybuck
