Laguna Beach is dear to my heart since my grandmother used to have a beach house on the old board walk ages ago. I can still smell the salt in the wood of that old house and hear the waves as I would go to sleep and wake up. Did you know that the life guard tower used to be part of an old gas station?

Last week was a beautiful day at my local beach (Laguna Beach). I took my camera and tripod to specifically shoot HDR images. (please check them out in the HDR section). I also took many photos that were not done in HDR. Below is a few that I liked for different reasons. Hopefully you also will enjoy them.
The first two are the same photo only cropped differently. Which do you prefer? The first has a small plane pulling an advertising banner. The second is cropped tighter without the plane.

I like the watercolor filter one better.

Very cool! You and I are on the same page! Must be the surfer in you! lol

No, I didn't know about the old gas station. The sign on the tower says established in 1929........I wonder if Eiler Larson was wandering the streets back then? Of course you remember him, right?

The Lifeguard tower was used as a Union Oil gas filling station on the southeast corner of Broadway St. and PCH until the early 1930's. Oh yes, I remember the "muffin man"! That is what I called him when I was a little kid. We lived in Alhambra and made weekend trips down to the beach to see my Grandmother. Always got there via Laguna Canyon Road. It was always a contest to see who would see the ocean first. When I was in high school I would drive myself down early in the morning and buy 6 donuts at the best donut shop 'in the world' plus a pint of milk. I would sit on the beach, eat them all and then flop over on my stomach and sleep until the fog lifted. Oh, the memories! At low tide I have hiked to all of the coves and collected shells. My folks retired to San Clemente and while I love it there I always have to get a Laguna day in. Also Crystal Cove...have you been there? Great photo opts there too.

Thank you Rene'spictures........I am very blessed to have such a beautiful warm place so close to where I live. Sorry if you are in snow looking at these photos. If it helps you out any, the weather turned cold and windy here. You really should put on a jacket today if you were here!

Mabarker, you do have some fond memories of Laguna. I love the donut story! Hahahahaa
Yes, I know Crystal Cove very well, it's also called Moro Canyon and I not only walk the beach but across PCH I ride my mountain bike in the park. I'm planning on a photographic trip to Crystal Cove to help teach a friend some HDR techniques. I will give you a PM when I post the photos for sure.
