Welcome to UHH

The book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson is very well accepted. http://www.amazon.com/Understanding-Exposure-3rd-Photographs-Camera/dp/0817439390

Order the Magic Lantern Book for your camera.....a wealth of knowledge in it on the camera itself and also on photography.
Also, be prepared for some wise ass replies to your question, but don't let that stop you from asking more. Welcome to the group. Most here are eager to help.

Try to learn and somewhat master one item at a time before moving on to the next. EXPERIMENT!

Hi Joey, I think the best way to get off auto is to get an understanding of the exposure triangle.
http://digital-photography-school.com/learning-exposure-in-digital-photography

Typically you set your ISO in concrete and then shoot in aperture priority.
As you adjust your aperture the ISO stays locked and the shutter changes to where it needs to be.
This is not the only way to do it but it is a good start and can be used to help gain understanding.

Welcome Joey. You get the award for the longest topic title I've seen, but it is much better than "Help".
