I like them both but I think the bird in no. 2 would be better out of the shot, it sort of deflects you from the whole image.

You are so so so wrong about the bird , it add,s a lot to the picture , it's one of the reasons that makes it a great picture worth looking at the whole thing it has way more going on than the sun set pic. . Look
at the waves the detail the dark and light , the pinkish hew in the sky the bird brings it life it reminds me of a very good artist's painting . The waves in the first pic. are dark and light lines on the water not much detail , like the like the second one, The sun is all you got. just look at each one for two min .and take it all in . If you cant look at a picture for two min straight its not a good picture . I can on the second one, on the first i had my fill after 20 seconds ,
thats long for me, but some i can look for at for five min and even come back
for more . and dont say im crazy i have picked the winner and second
Place . And in a couple the third place in the uhh weekly photo contest . I even picked one that would win , but should not. That was a couple weeks ago
a new mother and baby it wasent a good picture , it won totally on the emotion of the female voters. I could have walked into any baby ward and snapped a hundered with my i phone which would have had the same effect. If you seen the pic. You would know what i mean .

Right on , and keep it up , the three year old Running on the beach will be a
a runner up, if not the winner in this weeks contest titled feet . as well as the dark bird on the beach could also win

I actually like the first one...though keep in mind, it's dark enough that you will have clipped blacks...they won't print well...the blue areas are the totally black areas that Lighroom identified in the histogram

I'm not sure if it's poor form to edit without asking - but it's only a crop. I've done this with quite a few of my scenery shots where there's a large expanse of sky or sea or open country. I stuck to a ratio of 4x6 - or was it 8x10. (Sorry if this is not the recommended protocol).

Then your monitor must need calibrating because mine is at 40% brightness (pretty dark) and I can see detail. Just FYI.

Both are nice but I love the first one, it just draws you into it, it gets you in the foreground, then the middle and just pulls you into the background. If I was printing one,I would do that one. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't change a thing about the picture. Great as it is.

Heather Anne...thanks for viewing these images. I did a "re-work" of the first and thought I'd include it in the post, also for comments.
