If you add Perfect Photo Suite, you get layer functionality without the complexity of CS, and for whole lot less money.
I have Elements on trial & just starting to learn it but am considering Lightroom before I actually purchase. Can you please tell me why you are changing to Lightroom.

Just to note: I don't think 30 days is enough to learn if Elements will work for you. Although Elements 11 has a significantly improved user interface over 10 I don't know if it is enough to keep you from being frustrated with it.
Elements goes on sale for under $50 from time to time. Your time and effort to learn it are worth much more than that.
I recommend getting the Kelby and Kloskowski book and spending some quality time with Elements before considering Lightroom.
I have both (plus Photoshop) and would give up Lightroom before Elements...even though I find myself using Lightroom 90% of the time. The reason is that you can do MUCH more editing with Elements and once you learn it the Elements Organizer is as powerful (or more so) than Lightroom's cataloging functions. Most who comment on Elements never learned how to use the Organizer.
Lightroom certainly has its advantages so I plan to keep both. But I plan to dump my Photoshop for Elements when CS6 gets out of date.
Thanks so much & I agree re the time invested. From what I've read today in the various forums I think Elements might work OK for me as I persevere. And editing is more what I need as my current cataloguing works well for me. But where can you get it for $50? Cheapest I've found down here is $149. ($199 with video editing included). Cheers

Ah, sorry. I did not notice where you are from. I have heard before that Adobe has some not-so-nice pricing policies in Oz.
The standard version goes on sale in the US from time to through Amazon and Costco. Elements 11 was such before the Christmas holidays. It is nomrally $79 US through those sources.
Thanks so much - will try those sources. Cheers

Hi Aussiegirl as one of your cousins across the ditch I was getting really frustrated with the emails Amazon were sending me telling me about the wonderful discounts they were giving on Elements 11 so finally the light went on in my brain and I googled how to by stuff from Amazon and found this page
http://www.parkablogs.com/content/guide-buying-mp3-ebooks-videos-and-downloads-amazon-outside-of-usaAll up elements cost me about $NZ85 this week plus a late night trying to work out how to connect to the VPN network. All I can say watch the instructional video right to the end before installing The VPN connection software.
O and wait till Amazon come out with a good discount.

Thanks for the clarification. Elements can often be found at greatly reduced prices as part of product promotions. New cameras will often offer it with a kit, and as long as it is not registered, I can't see any reason a person could not sell the program at a heavily discounted price.
That is so helpful Altheman. I will investigate this right away. Thanks a lot.
