I currently use PSE11 for organizing and processing my photos. I have approximately 45,000. I use keywords extensively, writing them to the Metadata of each file as I go. My question is, when I move to Lightroom will Lightroom import and use the keywords I now have assigned to each photo? I have tried searching this forum but cannot find this question answered. Any help is appreciated.

Yes, Keywords added in PSE11 will be imported to LR provided you have written the metadata to the file.

Why do you want to move from PSE11 to Lightroom? Is it really an "upgrade"? I'm checking out LR on a trial version and it seems incredibly similar to Aperture 3 with similar limitations, in that it has no layers functionality and needs PS or PSE (or similar) for that feature.

I'm not knocking LR, I don't know enough about it to do that. My questions stem from building up my knowledge of it to make an informed decision on whether to ditch Aperture.

Lightroom will enable you to do more with RAW files than is possible in Elements.

This is a statement I keep hearing/reading.
Is there, anywhere on the internet, a thorough comparison between the RAW capabilities of each program?

The reviews and comments on dpreview just don't do LR justice. Almost all of the comments brush briefly on how it is possible to do local adjustments and retain that data without actually changing the original raw file, but this is an over simplification of the capabilities of LR.

I was going to write a comparison chart, but it would take a small book to do it properly. The best way to really know the advantages of LR would be to download the free trial and give it a go. Watch the video tutorials, read Birdpix's tutorials and see for yourself how LR stands head and shoulders over Elements ACR and Elements Organiser. Elements comes into it's own with pixel level editing, masking and layers, facial recognition and a dozen things I have not yet found or tried. LR is supreme at cataloguing, raw image editing and conversion.

I agree totally and would not trade Lightroom for nothing especially Elements11

Yes, Lightroom happily imports your keywords.

Adobe Camera RAW, which is one of the three programs you get with Elements, is quite similar to Lightroom's RAW editing capabilities.

Each has its advantages. If I had to choose only one I'd stick with Elements. I happen to have Elements 11, Lightroom 4, Photoshop CS6, and the Topaz suite. I certainly will never upgrade Photoshop (I bought it while I had a student discount) and if $ become a major consideration I'd go with Elements alone. As long as $ aren't too tight I'll probably keep up Lightroom also. It works seamlessly with all three of the other programs.

Here is the comparison for the Adobe family of editing software, including Elements and Lightroom.

This is on the Adobe web site:
