What a crappy day....

Several things when wrong today... The least of which was my 100mm Macro lens took a dump. The shutter diaphragm is stuck wide open and the lens will not work on the camera at any aperture setting other than f2.8... So my macro lens has just decided that it wants to do portraits and nothing else... the dreaded Err 01 disease.

Anyway I did get out and shoot some with a stacked lens on my 180mm but it is not very practical, hard to hold steady and super thin DOF... I guess you guys will be seeing less of me as I don't see myself shooting as much as I did before now that my 100mm is toast.

Anyway here are a few of pretty much just bee's eyes as that is about all that fit in the frame... If you look at them large you can get a pretty good look at the compound eyes.

Sorry to hear about the lens-- that's a tough loss.

http://learn.usa.canon.com/resources/articles/2012/eos_error_msgs.shtml

Error codes shared by nearly all EOS digital SLR bodies include…

Err 01: Lens to body communication error
The camera to lens communication is somehow being interfered with… could be a problem within the lens itself, possibly the camera body, or something as simple as a smudged fingerprint on the lens mount contacts.

Sorry about the lens. You've gotten some awesome photos with it. Get it fixed or we're missing out big-time.

Thanks for the advice guys, but I cleaned the contacts and checked it out on two different bodies, Auto focus works just fine, but if I shoot at anything other than f/2.8 there is no capture only an error statement, the shutter is definitely stuck. I was getting very different lighting results in consecutive shots the day before, I thought that it was the flash causing that, now I suspect that it was the shutter's improper function.

Well, maybe I can limp along with my Sigma and a 1.4 Teleconverter, but I did so enjoy shooting with that 100mm, kinda puts a knot in my shorts, you buy a Canon lens for perceived quality and then it craps out like that. This is the first expensive lens that I have ever lost like this... Not sure that I will have it fixed, maybe someday.

Send an e-mail to Rick Riggins via http://www.discountcamerarepair.com/Contact_WCDG.html . See if he can fix your shutter problem.
