Hi R.G.!

Especially nice to hear from you - my ancestors hail from Abernethy, Scotland and years ago I explored Scotland on a Brit Rail Pass.

Regarding these images, it was trial and error, tweaking the angle to minimize the refraction and keeping the aperture tight at f/18 and f/22.

Kerry

Anybody with Scottish sensibilities in their ancestry can't be all bad!

I've just re-read your post - the GH3 has a CMOS sensor - not prone to streaking. Maybe I was offending the Hogger that I mentioned by implying that he had an old camera (oops).

I can remember having problems with exposure when something bright like the sun is too close to the centre of the scene. That was in auto mode - you were probably in full manual mode. I suppose most pros and keen hobbyists leave all auto modes behind completely. Not at that stage myself (yet). I think I was right about the aperture, though.

I think that Panasonic are state-of-the-art when it comes to their latest sensors. Don't be surprised if you get DSLR-quality images from yours.

Hi Sdaupanner! Thank you so much!

If you are looking to carry a little less weight on your gold-panning and photography adventures, take a peek at the new pro Panasonic GH3, it is nothing short amazing(been called the new Leica) and the newest Panasoniclenses (which I do not yet own) are to die for. Where in New England do you hail from?

I started off in South Western New Hampshire and moved to the Berkshires of Mass but I married a girl from Maine and she is from Holden Me. So I guess we are Northeasters living in the middle of the country ... Miss the changing of the seasons here it is either Hot or cold and the leaves are when the bikers leave after Sturgis Rally The wife and I both miss the Fall time and I think the ocean most of all. Where we live now is kind of in the center of things like Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse and Devils Tower and Not far from the Bad Lands so we have much to see but how many times can you see things like that and say Oh No not again to visiting family?

All great but I like #2 best, it reminds me of a piece of free form glass art you might see in the lobby of an exclusive hotel. Good job.

r[quote=kerfree]Shooting into the sun and manipulating the dials in gloves, while learning one's way around a new camera is probably not the smartest way to learn - but sure had fun trying! Here are the first pics out - I think the Panasonic GH3 and me are going to be great together :) :D (Working on controlling refractions and composition - C&C very welcome)[/quote
So that's what you guys do in winter, how interesting.

Great shots Kerfree, like the sunlight and the action in the water, well done.
