Shooting into the sun and manipulating the dials in gloves, while learning one's way around a new camera is probably not the smartest way to learn - but sure had fun trying! Here are the first pics out - I think the Panasonic GH3 and me are going to be great together :) :D (Working on controlling refractions and composition - C&C very welcome)

Nice, nice work Kerry, Big smile on my face ;-) ;-)
You selected a shutter speed slow enough to show some movement in the splashes of water too.
Nice clean star burst on the sun.
No reflections either.
;-) ;-) ;-)
Am not familiar with your Panasonic GH3 camera,...but am going to go familiarize myself with it now.
What was your exposure info, lens etc.
Went thru your portfolio yesterday,....your bird images are super,..love the egret, ibis and duck images, they are perfecto.
Love the red maple leaf in the water too as well as many others.
Post a few here with some background comments,...would be interesting for all.

Thanks for all the smiley faces Marty! Nice to come home to! :-D :-D This afternoon, I've been out shooting along the lake shore in the fog. I have so much fun out there, love the challenge and like you say, it is a great way to keep the old bones moving. Your encouraging words are the icing on the cake!
These images were taken with my old Panasonic 14-140mm lens. Settings: 200 ISO, f/18 for the two closer up pics and f/22 for the darker image with the star burst.
So appreciate your taking a look at my flickr portfolio, I really value your opinion! With all the great BIF shooters on the forum, I don't know if I have the nerve to post my bird pics here, but maybe :)

Hello, Kerfree. Excellent shots. I'm curious about how you did such a good job of including the sun square-on like that. Would I be right in thinking that the sun caused vertical streaking until you closed the aperture right down?
A while ago another Hogger posted a query about capturing sparkles on water, and I suggested that he should shut the aperture right down, because I theorised that it would give the camera an easier time of it. I never heard any more from him, so I don't know if it was good advice or not  . Can you put my conscience at ease?

Hi Sdaupanner! Thank you so much!
If you are looking to carry a little less weight on your gold-panning and photography adventures, take a peek at the new pro Panasonic GH3, it is nothing short amazing(been called the new Leica) and the newest Panasoniclenses (which I do not yet own) are to die for. Where in New England do you hail from?

Hi R.G.!
Especially nice to hear from you - my ancestors hail from Abernethy, Scotland and years ago I explored Scotland on a Brit Rail Pass.
Regarding these images, it was trial and error, tweaking the angle to minimize the refraction and keeping the aperture tight at f/18 and f/22.
Thanks for the encouragement!

Great shots Kerfree, like the sunlight and the action in the water, well done.
