In my humble opinion the waterfall in the last photo is the only one the comes close to having decent looking water.

I have a very hard time figuring out just why it is so many nature photographers insist on turning wonderful clear streams into flowing milk.
Here are some examples of I like to see posted - just what my eye sees.

I live about 50 miles from this gem. Have been studying really hard to capture the water this way, and since joining you guys have learned a lot.......I was so happy with this result, though I am sure it is far from perfect, and I would appreciate comments, good or bad.
Thanks,
Bambi

Nice pictures but too slow a shutter speed for my taste. Last spring a guy at our photo club did a presentation on shutter speed for moving water. After a lot of examples he ended up recommending 1/13 s for most cases. (I am sure yours are longer). I have used it since and have to agree.

It is slow enough to show some motion (not freezing drops) but does not give the unnatural pillowing.

Different strokes for different folks on this one, though.

I am pretty sure you'll recognize this example as it is in OR also.

Example at 1/13 s.

Thanks.

It is Multnomah falls in OR. It is in the Columbia River Gorge. There are dozens but it is one of the grandest and most accessible. It has parking in the middle of the Interstate.

I agree,I like water to look like water, which has transparency.

These are very lovely Harvey. I also like the clarity, but sometimes I feel like being just a little "artsy", and so I experimented.......I have some other shots of more natural streams and falls. For me the thrill was discovering the "know-how" to get that particular look.
Thanks for your comments

nice water but the background is way to dark.

Unless you HDR or do some layering and masking you can't have your cake and eat it too. Brightening the background would blow out the water.

In my case the water was the subject so leaving the background dark was a deliberate choice to highlight the water wihtout blowing it out.

too much would blow the water but just a tad brighter background may make it a better photo.....I hate hdr and it wouldn't work anyway. I may be wrong but I'm sure pp fans will prove me wrong.

There is a time when "White/Milk Water" is a true part of the photo - falls and fast spring water are an example.

Can be OK. The photo you posted seems about the shape of the water path...not the water per se.
