Does it really matter whether its sailors or shepherds or farmers or whatever? The same principle applies.
Fact of the matter is that you have just added another post without adding anything at all to answering the question.
We have 12 pages here and only about 6 people have seriously tried to provide any meaningful input into predicting conditions.

We have comments from people virtually ridiculing the poster and another for even daring to ask the question.
There are about 6 pages of "me too" comments, about 2 pages of photos of sunsets that add nothing to the discussion.
The potentially best one looks like a massively overprocessed HDR.

I congratulate the poster for asking the question, for trying to better their knowledge base.
And I congratulate those who answered this very valid question in a respectful way.

all i was saying , is the saying was quoted wrong.. letting the op know that it was sailors who said this, therefore probably goes for the coastal area more so than way inland... now your response on the other hand was of no use, complaining about everybody else's responses, and doing the very thing you were complaining about...

...which means, lighthouse is not congratulating you, really... :?

I laughed every time. But then I don't take much I read here too seriously. I even think your response is funny.

But then...maybe I am rude. :-)

NAW! You are not rude.... Some folks are a little "thin-skinned"... I am more GREGARIOUS and often others find me being a "Jokester" -- especially on any photo shoot... But after all I am having the "time-of-my-life" when out capturing images to Make photographs from... Hell!! Life is a funny thing.. Enjoy Every moment of it...
((Note..... The is advice from a two (2) time cancer WINNER.))

Having had cancer (and beatiing it) was my life changing experance... I smile almost ALL of the time... That is because I am ALIVE.

Well while we are all adding and clogging the thread lets check this link that shows that I wasn't misquoting - it's just that you had only heard "your" version.

When a baby smiles a lot, it's usually because of gas.

On one hand, good for you that you survived the ugliness of suffering from cancer. On the other, why don't you create a topic about it, instead of hijacking this one, without offering any advice or answering the original question?
Happy New Year, and I wish you a bunch more of them!

it obviously isnt just "my" version... if you look back in this thread, there are several people who have said the same thing... dont see anyone else saying it like you have, but here you go again, posting something that you were complaining about... i mean we can go on and on about this, and make it another 13 pages, but isnt this what you were complaining about??

I have read the full thread.
Seeing as how you are not going to follow the link I will paste the first few lines of it for you.

This is the first part of the weather-lore rhyme:

Red sky at night; shepherds delight,
Red sky in the morning; shepherds warning

Sometimes the phrase involves sailors rather than shepherds - both have a more than usual interest in the weather.

Sometimes it is just plain luck. A friend of ours who lives in Canada, had the nice idea of sending little packets of her departed husband's ashes to friends all over the world, so that he might be scattered far and wide.

So we made the 15k trip to the beach before sunrise, and just happened to have reasonable conditions. For once only chance, the picture came out OK as well, although I did do a practice shot to make sure the remote strobe was doing its job.

We sent the picture to our friend back in Canada, who treasures it as a memory of her husband. Quite a nice idea I thought.

There are many later citations of the saying in literature, including this from Shakespeare, in Venus & Adonis, 1593:

"Like a red morn, that ever yet betoken'd wreck to the seaman - sorrow to shepherds."

From http://www.phrases.org.uk evidently Shkespeare thinks both.

i did look at the link, and like i said, its not "my" version, even says it in your link. if you did actually look at the whole thread, you saw many people saying sailor, not a one saying shepherd. that is the only way i have ever heard it, and, as it seems, most others. but the fact still remains, you are STILL doing what you were complaining about... now, i explained why i said what i said, which did have something to do with the topic at hand... but you are too pre-occupied with trying to prove some point; that nobody cares about because they all said it like i did anyway; and you continue to add pages of crap to this thread, which supposedly you didnt like.......

No.
You said that I misquoted the saying.
The link proves that I didn't.
It is totally irrelevant as to how many people quoted it as "sailors".
Who gives a toss whether you have only ever heard of it as "sailors".
You still haven't ackowledged that you were wrong in saying that I misquoted.
The link also provided meteorological information as to why the saying has some basis in fact so it was relevant to the discussion.

Yes red sky at night shepherds delight, red sky at morn sailors warning. but this is no good if you want to be there, this is telling you that red sky at night means its going to be a nice day tomorrow, red sky at morn means the weather is going to turn bad.
