How to predict the sunrise --- ???

Any suggestions on how to predict whether there will be a nice sunrise?

some mornings there is a beautiful red sky, or a bright sun; other mornings are less picturesque.

I have tried reading the cloud maps the night prior -- that doesn't seem to help too much.

any suggestions would be appreciated

thanks

I think the problem is it's the clouds just beyond the horizon which have the greatest influence. When you're doing your night-before weather check, be sure to include the area 30 or 40 miles to your east. Even then, how often does the weather oblige by being predictable? (Maybe if you know a good psychic :) ).

Like MT said, you can only get up and watch, this was about 08.15.
I always get the best shots when there are a few clouds about. ;-)

I agree with MT Shooter.
Watching even the most mundane sunrise (or sunset) is better than watching TV.

The thing is that, like me, if you have to travel to a location due to living among too many houses an early indication of a possible good sunset/rise would be very helpful.

Some of you just don't get it do you :(

If you live in the concrete jungle and have no view as such there is no point in looking out of the window as the horizon, which is really the view you want for a sunrise/set, is not available.

Why do you have to try and be funny instead of helping?

Izza -- thanks

not sure they are trying to be "funny"

seems more rude to me

(if they are trying to be funny -- it isn't working)

Well, it IS funny. There is really no reliable way to know what the clouds will look like right at sunrise, so the advice to look out the window - or get up early and go look - is actually the best advice.

Ah well I have to say I am looking for serious help on the internet and will post up any good ideas I find.

I am visiting my Mum for dinner on Tuesday then popping down to Burnham on sea, there is a little lighthouse on the beach, weather looks to be OK so going to try for a sunset scene. Not a trip I can just look out the window and decide on as it's over an hour away but wish me luck :)
