LOL.. Sarge, having spent pretty much my whole life in Florida with the exception of 10 or 12 years I wish that snakes were all we had to worry about down here....

Welcome to Florida!

Would one fit on the left foot and the other on the right? (If so, what do you do with the free third one?) Oh, and the undisclosed catch: what's the shipping and handling?

Didn't someone say Florida might have 'Brown Recluse' spiders?

This ain't what I signed up for moving here.

Snakes and Spiders are not high on my list of things to have around. I've caught snakes before, pinching them just behind the head and the sort. I was bitten by a big ole spider in Viet Nam and the sac came out 5 years later as a solid white 1/8th wide and 1 inch long core. Medic dug it out with a surgical spoon ?

This little black racer was fast too and I read in wiki they bite viciously when corned or annoyed.

Get to grips Sarge! A man like yourself, fought in Vietnam, had soldiers under his command, frightend of a liitle snake? Your sure your not from the UK?

hey sarge, you went to live around them when you moved, kind of like moving next to a large farm and then finding out you didn't like like the smell in the air, while cooking steak on the grill. have a good and warm holiday

LoL...Grabbing the tail is a good way to get bit. Grab them behind the head. Watch out for them brown recluses. Would rather be bit by a non-poisonous snake then the recluse.

Catching a Recluse spider by the tail would be something to see.

Unfamiliar as to the breed, but the snake posted is non-poisonous. Note the round pupil in the eye and the rounded head. Ven
omous snakes have an eliptical eye(vertical), with a triangular head.

Kind of like Nancy Pelosi?

Also, a poisonous snake has a blunt tail where as a none poisonous snake has a pointed tail.

I guess you missed the post of the snake killed in the Everglades. One of those Pythons or Anaconda I believe. Seems like it was close to 20 ft. and as big around as the average person's thigh. Had a large swell about half way down and when cut open there was a partially digested fawn inside. I'll send photos if I can find them. Best not to view them before meal time. If you have small pets keep them away from ponds. The gators seem to be fond of them. You probably have as many gators nearby as snakes. And a swarm of mosquitoes can carry off a small child. Watch out for the jellyfish and sharks in the ocean. Also the bats with rabies are bad down there. Also keep an out for the flesh eating Zombies brought over from Haiti. The most dangerous import though is the " Yankee drivers" They can be recognized by the grey Buick and also black socks with sandals. Enjoy life in the Sunshine State. I tend to stick to the Panhandle. Destin/Ft. Walton. Fewer Zombies. Also brush up on your Spanish. Might save your life.

Now those black snakes are good to have around, they will eat the pygmy rattlers or deadly coral snakes that may be hiding in your flower bed, Moccasins generally stay near the water except in times of heavy rains you may find them in your patio or garage as they have been flooded out of their natural habitat... the feral pigs you may notice in your yard are not nearly as dangerous as the razor backs that you will find in the glades... If you catch a perch that on closer inspection seems to have interestingly large teeth, just cut the line and forget about the hook as piranha are dangerous even out of the water.... An no you are not dreaming, that actually is a 10 ft. Komondo Dragon walking across your yard....

Did you know that we actually have crocodiles? But all things considered they are relatively harmless.... ;-)

I can't believe this. All the posts I made PRIOR to moving to Florida didn't mention all this stuff. Zombies, Gators, Snakes, Spiders and MORE......

I'll keep my camera handy, that's for sure and have my running shoes on instead of my sandals and white socks.

I think one of the bigger dangers of living in Florida, especially the Keys, is the liquorcycle or as it's commonly known the moped. The local drunks that can no longer carry a driver's license can still drive mopeds. Usually found on the streets of Key West but my also show up on the sidewalks. The biggest group seems to inhabit Key West along Duval St. between Capt. Tony's Saloon, Sloppy Joe's, and Margaritaville. Being a survivor of the Tet Offensive in Vietnam your chances of survival in Florida are better than average.

 I've done the Duval Crawl a couple of times. But you are correct about the Mopeds for sure.

Then you know very well why it's called the Crawl. It's bad having to find your way back to the cruise ship and pass out before the sun goes down. Such beautiful sunsets to miss at mile marker 0.

Hate to inform you but after one of the storms that ran across Flordia in the 90's, I think, trashed a pet store/animal whearhouse whatever it was, but it allowed lot of snakes of different species to escape. Now Flordia has a population of many different snakes that are not indigenous to even America. They are starting to have problems with pythons, boa constrictors and even deadly snakes from other parts of the world, like cobras.
