Many people use flickr - very easy to use.

Since I use Picasa as a photo editor / manager, I upload to Picasaweb quite easily. Both are quite easy to use and Picasaweb is free for a ton of storage space. Picasa is a free download from Google.

I also use Skydive, Safesync from Trend Micro and all of these services allow you to specify a link to the file/folder that you could include in G+, etc.

Considering all of the above advice, I wonder if anyone has considered the fine print with these sites. Many of them claim ownership of photos posted via their site(s), and/or the right to publish, sell, etc. those photos.

Flickr among them, I believe.

Why would anyone so easily give away their legal rights to their photos?

Maybe I am wrong.

I'm sorry you are incorrect. Flickr does NOT claim ownership of images posted on their site and users do NOT give up their rights to their photos.

The TOS for flickr state:

Quote:
Yahoo! does not claim ownership of Content you submit or make available for inclusion on the Yahoo! Services. However, with respect to Content you submit or make available for inclusion on publicly accessible areas of the Yahoo! Services, you grant Yahoo! the following worldwide, royalty-free and non-exclusive license(s)

which means they can use your images to promote Flickr for free (a trade-off for using the free service) but can not sell them or claim copyright.

Have you looked at the TOS for this site? It's not as clearly written.

Quote:
OWNERSHIP OF WEBSITE OR RIGHT TO USE, SELL, PUBLISH CONTENTS OF THIS WEBSITE

The website and its contents are owned or licensed by the website. Material contained on the website must be presumed to be proprietary and copyrighted. Visitors have no rights whatsoever in the site content. Use of website content for any reason is unlawful unless it is done with express contract or permission of the website.

it's written that it seems this site can claim ownership of images posted here.

Flickr since 2004 for me... Broadest base of people to see your images...Plus has good photo forum groups as well, many being niche groups.

Check out megashot.net. More than just a sharing site and some really nice folks. You get your own web page there that you can customize to your liking. Like flickr it is free for your first 200 photos and $25 a year after that. Check it out I think you will like it. Tell them Sky Shooter sent ya you can do a search for me there under that name.

OK, so, Flickr does not usurp ownership of one's photos, but it does appear that they can use them as they wish (not just for promotional purposes), which is tantamount to ownership/copyright.
Question: In your quoting of the "TOS" is that from Flickr? If so, it does look like a claim of ownership.
