Thanks Rocket, that was what I was trying to say. The tec was very helpful and said I probably had a friend with a CD for a Rebel or any of the other Canons I could borrow which I did. I think I was installing a 20 D.Bee

You can get the software for your camera at Canons website.

You can do firmware without a CD, but when it comes to the Windows based software from Canon, updates only are on their site. The gotcha is that they look for previous installs on your PC, if they don't find one it will not install.
I shoot Canon, but so far only have bought used and of course the seller can never supply the CD. I'm under the impression that there is some personalization that can only be done to the camera using that software. I'd love to get my hands on an ISO if not an actual disk.

You CAN download the stand-alone installer for the full current version of any of the Canon utility software without a prior install - - you just need to have the Model and serial number of your Canon camera to do it. Otherwise - you are limited to the upgrade only versions.

When I decided I wanted to try Canon's DPP because the newest release has some HDR processing built in - - it took my 7D serial - and the full version was then available.
Merlin 1300, yes, right on, good magician, that is what I was talking about ... did that several years ago based on my Canon G2 S#. But I recall the G-2 opened the door and then I upgraded from there.

Aye - - DP - - I'm not sure if the upgrade process is any faster than an initial install - - but it is a bit smoother, as one need not be troubled searching for your camera's serial.

Please enlighten me where to plug in a model & serial number to download.
The only place I can find on their site to input a serial number is on product registration. So I registered my T1i and even set up an account. Still when I download the EOS utility which states it will either upgrade or install, it won't do anything without the dang original CD or previous install.
The installer from CNet a couple posts up only runs, asks me for it to have permission to make changes, then nothing. No more dialog boxes, prompts, disk activity or processes in the Task Manager. It might not be Win7 friendly.
If anyone is feeling generous, I can create a place where you can upload an ISO. PM me for details.

I have installed it without the disk for years
Works great.
Update has all the information you need, you just need the folders to put it into. Not hard to do.
Eureka! That hack works. Thanks.
