If I am replying to a particular post, I always use Quote Reply, mainly for the above reason.
If I am replying in general I don't.

I totally agree with not re-posting images in a response.


Use quote reply when your reply is not to the original post that started the thread.

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier: worse than not using quote reply correctly is cutting off bits of it so that the proper formatting is lost. It's very common that someone will cut off the final ] and that messes up the entire quote. It also further messes up the next person who quotes the offender. Chaos rules!
