True artistry! Is this composited or just one layer?

Carol, thanks for stopping by. This is an art piece made starting with a blank canvas. The first layer is the under-painting of the colors ranging from the blue sky to what will be the dark foreground. The clouds are added to this first layer for the trees will be applied in layers over them.

The next layer is the background trees which are made from faded linework as no detail is applied to them. Then comes the layers of the large tree limbs. There is much work applied to them because they appear visibly close compared to the background trees. There are several levels of textures applied to these large limbs.

Foliage and water are added as layers onto the background and its trees. The egret is the final set of layers. One is to block in color and shape, another is to create definition and texture. The final layer of the egret is the fine flow of feathers. The last layer adds highlights, detail, and final color adjustment layers.

Veralisa296, thanks for stopping by and for the reply. It starts with blocking in color followed by brushing in the larger feathers. Then the work begins by applying the fine feathers which are drawn one by one using a technical pen brush set to the finest of lines using long flowing strokes.

Tis the season for birds to nest and rear their young and many folks here enjoy birding with their camera. I don't have the skills, gear, or live in an area of rookeries so I must resort to drawing and painting them.

This is my attempt at creating a scene of an egret at home in a swampy area. I used a graphic painting program and a graphic display tablet with a stylus as the brush to create this as I have for the other posted sessions.

I've included progressive images to show the process of creating this work. The finishing touches were applied to the image to add detail highlights and to give it a bit of warmth.
Tis the season for birds to nest and rear their yo... (show quote)
