Why are there so many different ways to attach windshield wipers? I just replaced the wipers on my son's Honda Fit, and it took me a while. I bought a set of three wipers made for the Fit, but I had to spend time reading and trying to figure out the directions. I've been putting wipers on cars since the 1960s, but these wipers had 4-step directions that weren't very clear. Once I knew how they worked, it was simple. There were too many moving parts in the fitting, with no obvious way to attach them. I had to lift a little door, raise the piece opposite it, and the slide the wiper arm into place. I got the two front wipers installed easily after understanding the system. For some reason, Honda uses a different system for the rear wiper. It's a simple slide-off-slide-on. I dread the day when I'll have to remove these. 😁

One nice thing - I brought his car to Walt, a local guy. When he was finished, he phoned and said that the wipers needed replacing, and he could do it. I told him that I had the wipers at home (a $19 set of three). A few years ago, I brought my own car to a shop in town. When I picked it up, there was a charge of $63 to replace the wipers. I prefer DIY.

EDITED: Maybe the dealer gave me a break. Here are two wipers for $64, plus tax. The one for the rear costs $50.

Bosch Icon wipers are generally rated the best in comparison tests.

My Prius has some kind of proprietary wiper that I can only get from a Toyota dealer...

The wave of the future. I think "The Wave of the Future" is going to look like the wave below.

I have a 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman. I bought wipers in a local car parts place whose book directed me to the wipers. They weren't correct. The mounting system was wrong. I returned them and went to the nearest Mini dealer for the wipers. That was a pain. The dealer is 40 miles away, but I felt I had no choice. I didn't trust Amazon to sell me the correct wipers.

Wipers used to be universal. Now, you can buy wipers that can't be put on your car, if you're not careful.

Jerry, I buy wipers at Auto Zone and they install with no additional charge (probably factored into the price)

Right! I prefer to do things myself. It's the same with car batteries. I just ordered another $20 set of three wipers from Amazon, so I'll be ready when I need them again.

Jerry, it's been a while since I changed wiper blades - haven't had all that much rain in the past year. I needed new ones for a Silverado p/u, and so went to Auto Zone and picked up a set. Serious case of sticker shock when the bill totaled $68.00 (with my military discount!) Good grief! When did these things get so expensive?

How about this: when it is raining or snowing, stay home!!

If you have to go out when it is rainy, roll down the driver side window. With a handkerchief or paper towels wipe the windshield. Have your passenger do the same from their window. After a short while neither you or your passenger will want to do this. Now you have a perfect reason to sit on the couch and watch old movies and drink beer.

I went to a local Advance Auto Parts store and bought new wiper blades for mine and my wife's cars a couple years ago. The salesman asked if I wanted the guarantee. When I asked why I would want it he explained that for $5 per blade, I could return within a year and the blades would be replaced free. I would have the option of renewing the guarantee on each for the $5 fee. Having two different sized ones on my car and three separate ones on the wife's car, so I thought sure, why not? Then the salesman installed them for me. I went back this past year and got new blades installed for about one quarter the price of buying them without the guarantee, maybe less.

In my circle Autozone is considered the last resort due to their pricing. Same wiper blades on Amazon cost about 50% less.

The local O’Reilly parts store installs wiper blades you buy there. They aren’t OEM blades but they still wipe your windshield.
