I use SB700s triggered by a SB400 mounted on the hot shoe. SB700s have little stands that are okay. I use the flashes for stacking shots.

I agree. It is frequently a plus to tone down the background to make the subject more of a focal point. I have done this quite a bit-usually in PP but sometime with staged background and light control. To me a big part of the fun of photography is creative editing. The yellow tulip shot took my breath away!
