Why would you NOT crop if it improves composition?

Why do I crop? Simple.

Better focus for us all, which is why it is helpful to have many megapixels 🏆🏆🏆

And there is is. And if that is true, why are you asking about changing to different formats? Save your money, stick with what you are happy with.

I have an r6 I’ll sell for $1500. Very little use on it. I upgraded to a new r6ii at Xmas.

If and when you do need to change one or both to a "R" camera they have adapters for the lenses you have. I went to the non Canon adapters and they work fine (about fifty bucks not hundreds). Yje adapter has no glass just adapts the different type of connections and carries the wires thru.

Thanks for the information.
The trade in values of my bodies isn't a factor as I'll probably give them away.
Not going full frame sensor and staying crop is a real good idea but not sure if I'll be missing something for now or in future. I'm extremely happy with my selection of lenses so not changing them.
I love Canon customer service for any product and that's a plus to me.

Costs aside…there are few IMO reasons to go with a crop sensor body today. Nikon's at least are all lets say less fully featured than their FX models and while I don't really follow the other vendors it's likely they're similar because crop sensors are these days generally aimed at consumers who are looking for a lower price point and that means fewer of the goodies. Nikon's FX bodies are the same size and weight (outside of the Z9) as their old DSLR crop sensor bodies so that's not a consideration either to my mind. And the larger MP sensors, larger individual pixel sizes, and all of the other advantages that come along with the Z mount for lenses and the fact that pretty much all of their Z tele lenses are FX instead of DX (although they do work on a DX body) makes FF to me the way to go these days.

Because of the price point most crop bodies are designed to meet…vendors simply can't put the fastest processors, sensors, FPS, and sufficient battery to give a decent life before needing a spare as well as the more limited heat dissipation capability for video…in a body the size of a Z50. These days…if one wants a small light travel camera my personal opinion is that one of the all in one super zoom models is the way to go…if one is going for really good wildlife or wildlife then get a FF body in whatever brand suits your other needs based on lenses, menu layouts, hand feel, muscle memory and the myriad other factors that need to be considered.

We each have our reasons for our choice of cameras as well as format, and that is a blessing. Not everyone thinks the same about what we like and don't like, again a blessing.

Of course we look to others for their opinion and personal experiences with their choices.

I agree, I'm not interested in reinventing the wheel. If im getting a new camera I will stay with Canon. I see the FF are a LOT more money. As I have no immediate need I don't have to rush anything.
The limiting factor with my photography is me and not the camera.
Due to eye issues a faster more accurate auto focus might push me quicker. I'll have to see if recent eye surgery will help and so far my vision has greatly improved and it will improve over few months.
I manually focus on my moon photography with my 150-600 tamron and also eagle photos. Right now in NJ the young ones are on their way. My local eagles moved their nest closer to the river and are much smaller in the view finder. That's where cropping comes in. I use the Canon 5x and 10x to help me manually focus. Thanks to everyone

I invented a hexagonal wheel. That way it won't roll away by itself.

I posted a few answers to this discussion yesterday, but even while I was doing that I was wrestling with some other decisions. I've been wanting to go full frame and I do a photography tour which includes a hike and whale watching. More and more of the people on my tours (summer only, off cruise ships) have mirrorless cameras and most of the the photo guides we hire for the summer have mirrorless. Something about this discussion made me feel like this was the moment to make the switch.

I did it. Between posts to UHH I was on the BH website and I put my money down for a Nikon Z611 and lens adaptor so I could use the existing full frame lenses I already have, including a one year old 70-200 F2.8 and 24-70 F2.8. Also put out for a Kirk bracket as that's what goes on my tripod and monopod. All my wide lenses are DX but one thing at a time.

I shoot a lot of theater and one of the things I am looking forward to the most is a quiet camera. When I am forced to shoot a show and not a rehearsal with my mirrored cameras, every shutter click is loud in my ear. Also I feel I should be mirrorless conversant to be the most help to my guests. They pay a lot of money to spend five hours with me. So the deeds been done. I don't have a tracking number yet and second day to Alaska is five days minimum so next week sometime. The cruise ships don't show up for another five weeks so I have time to figure it all out.

While I was doing this my wife was in the next room buying opera tickets for next fall and the fall of 2025. those tickets were actually more expensive than the camera so we are pretty even on the day.

I know nothing about the Nikon lineup so I can't comment on models. I was surprised at the increase in cost from a crop to FF. That factor alone is reason enough not to go FF. My telescope hobby eats up a large portion of my hobby money.
I would like to try more BIF which better focus would help.
I've often thought with computers and cameras if you don't have a real pressing need wait a year for improvement of models.

I'm glad so many people are buying mirrorless cameras. I'm happy with my "click/clackers" and won't be purchasing mirrorless. I'm getting slow and can't breath when walking. I'm lucky to be able to get out and shoot anything. I'm trying to get stronger because I love to make photos that are pretty and fun.

You can start doing macro photos of everyday things local. You can experiment and not have to go far.
As a retired dentist and have a 100 macro with a ring light that I used for intramural photos. Start with a dollar bill and shoot the triangle eye on back

What is an intramural photo? Do you mean intramural sports photo? And you use a Macro lens for this? Please explain. Thank you.
