You did exactly what you and everyone should do with suspicious emails…click on the sender. You’ll instantly see if it’s legitimate or a scam.

Yup, analyze & investigate to confirm. NEVER click on the links or view any attachments in those emails!

Don'tcha wish you could reach through the internet like they do in the cartoons and wring the guy's neck?

Correct! That's how many businesses get hacked - careless employees. The same applies to a flash drive or a memory card you happen to find.

Or, just don't open any email sent by unrecognized senders. I ignore 90% of received emails. I also don't delete them. I allow then to remain on my ISP's servers. No harm no foul. I've been doing this for 25+ years. Unless one uses Outlook, emails do not exist on your devices! You access/view them via the internet. They do not take up "space" on your devices. I have 164,000+ emails in my "inboxes".

Or, just don't open any email sent by unrecognized... (show quote)

Not wanting to give you a hard time... but you may want to correct the statement: "Unless one uses Outlook, emails do not exist on your devices! "

Actually, Outlook (or any email app/program with POP) downloads to each device (like you say above); however, Outlook, or any email app/program, that is using IMAP leaves the emails on the server.

The really frightening thing is that I understand these scammers get a 1-3% return on their scams.

Just for comparison, 1 to 3 per4cent is considered a good return on direct mail.

You are welcome. I hesitate to provide corrective type feedback in general, fearing some may not take it well… but you are always a kind gentleman so I thought I would let you know.

Thank you. I try to live as a kind person. I had kind models. I’m lucky.

The good news is everyone should be getting an email about an increase in their social security payment starting in April. I did get an email about that and an official letter from SSA in USPS. I guess it is a COLA based on inflation rate.

Years ago, I saw a mystery on TV about that type of thing. A man sent letters to thousands of people telling them who would win a contest of some kind. For the guesses he got correct, he would send more letters for another contest. After sending several letters of correct predictions to people, he asked for a modest donation so he could keep sending them predictions. He scammed a lot of people that way.
