The first few days of a new phase are always the best times, and you proved why. Great detail. The second one is just as good if not better because your Jupiter is actually round instead of a streak or oval. I know Jupiter bulges at the equator, but mostly round.

Thank you, alberio, for the feedback. That was the narrowest phase of the moon that I have ever photographed. I must try it again in the next cycle!

As to Jupiter being a circle, perhaps that shot deserved a tripod for an even better capture. I take regular moon shots handheld, a testimonial to the excellent VR capabilities of modern cameras.

Hi Bluefish, thanks for the feedback on the photos.

The shots were taken on two different days/times. Both times the moon was fairly low in the western sky. The moon and Jupiter being near each other on 3/13 and visible in the west after sunset was mentioned by our local news weatherman, prompting me to go out for shot #2.
- March 12th, 7.44 p.m. EST. (EXIF says 6.44 p.m. since the camera clock has not been adjusted for Spring-forward)
- March 13th, 8.30 p.m. EST.

Thanks Ronnie.
