Fine job and very nice to see something different

Thanks! If I keep it up this won't seem different for long.

Great set. This shows there is beauty to be found in the desert. We just drove through the Lincoln National Park yesterday, and found it beautiful

Funny, I don't think of my area as desert though maybe technically it is, I don't know. Even in these canyons the elevation is over 5000 feet, and within a few miles are mountains over 10,000 feet. I just know it's intensely beautiful country. Thank you for looking.

The closeup's of the falling water is quite neat! I like the 'bubbles' in the last, as well!

I like those swirling bubble patterns too. It reminds me of a cauldron.

If I seem to be obsessed with exploring canyons lately, I am. One reason is because there are so many fascinating ones not far from where I live, though once I am down in them they seem hauntingly remote. Another reason is that I am aware I may not always be able to do things like that.

This one's been featured here before but this time I went upstream rather than down. It's called Bull Trap Canyon and I sometimes think of it as Bull Crap Canyon when I get annoyed by seeing all the cattle and the damage they do. But on this visit I wasn't annoyed, just intrigued as I investigated some of its twists and turns in search of a good trail camera site (I think I found one). I will explore it further though it's pretty tough going. For now these are the somewhat redundant photos I have to share.

Like other canyons in this area, Bull Trap has a few arbitrary dams which make for interesting scenes at least. The first three photos show the dam I encountered from above and the side. The last two photos are basically of the same scene just below the dam, one taken from below and one from above; the one from above is nicely abstract on its own, without my contrivance.

I hope you enjoy these.

Nice set of images. Particularly like the way you handled the water, not streamed out to a blur and not frozen drops either. Regards further exploration, if this were theater, I'd tell you to go break a leg, but I don't think that would be good advice here. Stay safe.

I play around with shutter speeds and water a lot, but here I just went with the settings I had, and this is pretty much what I saw.

The breaking a leg idea is kind of funny except that's precisely what worries me about myself! As my doctor tells me, I don't have the best track record. In fact I've been avoiding using my DSLR a lot because a sequence of slips resulting in falls along scrabbly trails have left my right shoulder in rough shape; try NOT putting your arm out to break a fall! Thanks for looking and commenting and wishing me well.

My trail hiking days are behind me but when I'm walking on slippery surfaces like wet grass or snow I use a walking stick, not for support but for balance. If a foot slips, I still have some control over falling. Have you checked your shoulder to be sure you didn't tear a rotator cuff. I did about 25 yrs ago and didn't catch it right away. Now, I'm really limited to what I can do with my right arm. If you haven't had it checked, you should. Walking sticks are available on Amazon for about $20.

The first injury occurred WHILE I was using a stick! I had stepped up onto a big boulder to avoid a slippery part of a steep trail, using the stick to help support me as I climbed up (I was also carrying a heavy pack). The tip of the stick slipped and I went backwards and to my side at about 200 mph, landing on the outstretched arm with a literal bang. The second time, six months ago, was similar but without the stick--another very steep trail with poor footing, and this time I fell forward with another bang. The result was a rotator cuff tear, possibly full-thickness. I have gone through an amazing amount of physical therapy and do daily stretching and exercises at home (on top of PT for a torn meniscus!--I told you I'm accident-prone). Recently, finally, I had a steroid injection into my shoulder which at least masks the pain though I know it won't heal the ripped-up muscle. But it's nice to have some relief for a few months. [For the sake of brevity I am leaving out two other incidents.]

Most people's next question is, "Why do you continue to hike alone?"

Excellent series. You are smart to get out and do while you're able. Looks like rough country.

It is rough, but everything around here is rough. It's so beautiful that I HAVE to get out there. Thank you.
