If I seem to be obsessed with exploring canyons lately, I am. One reason is because there are so many fascinating ones not far from where I live, though once I am down in them they seem hauntingly remote. Another reason is that I am aware I may not always be able to do things like that.
This one's been featured here before but this time I went upstream rather than down. It's called Bull Trap Canyon and I sometimes think of it as Bull Crap Canyon when I get annoyed by seeing all the cattle and the damage they do. But on this visit I wasn't annoyed, just intrigued as I investigated some of its twists and turns in search of a good trail camera site (I think I found one). I will explore it further though it's pretty tough going. For now these are the somewhat redundant photos I have to share.
Like other canyons in this area, Bull Trap has a few arbitrary dams which make for interesting scenes at least. The first three photos show the dam I encountered from above and the side. The last two photos are basically of the same scene just below the dam, one taken from below and one from above; the one from above is nicely abstract on its own, without my contrivance.
I hope you enjoy these.

I'm glad you like it. I'm hoping for a lot more photos in the future.
Really nice. Love seeing the water.

There's still a lot of water in the streams. I hope it's a portent of rain to come.
Well, I know that some people might need an explanation for what you do. But I don't. I think maybe desert dwellers feel an innate draw to canyons and water. I know I do! And that's where the animals collect too.
Keep up the good work, Feral!!
What is that in #2 in the edge of the water on the far side at the bottom of the little fall?

It's a pipe but I don't know why it's there. Maybe it relieves pressure to keep the dam from collapsing on the bulls trapped there? Ha. I'm not an engineer.
True, after decades in an arid climate I do get giddy over water and places it collects, or might collect (not to mention the animals). Plus it has been suggested I'm a bit crazy. I really can't dispute that.

Crazy is under rated!!
Sometimes it can't be helped. I find it's better not to fight it.
Good eye at work in a beautiful place.

Thanks! Let's hope the trail camera gets good stuff.
Fine job and very nice to see something different
Great set. This shows there is beauty to be found in the desert. We just drove through the Lincoln National Park yesterday, and found it beautiful
