Lotteries are taxes on those that are poor at math, Bob.

And usually those that can afford playing the lottery the least. It does help stationary and smoke shops keep up their business in poor neighborhoods though. 8-)

It is a legalized numbers game that we used to play in the 1950's and some of us ran in our neighborhoods in Detroit. Not me of course, that was someone that looked like me. You could box a number for a quarter back then, that's kinda like the powerball today. The odds were about the same though. So you can't say that the government is ruining the gambleing game.

I always thought that calling it a racket was a little harsh. I always thought of it as an opportunity to improve your probability skills; kinda like furthering your education. You learn to give me your money and you do without, rather like the govt does with taxes today.

True. I never thought of it that way but you're right.

The best way to win at the lottery is not to buy a ticket.

I agree. I buy a few dollars of lottery tickets every three or four months.

Its only a way to get the poor (they buy the most tickets) to give the goverment the money they need to take care of the poor. In other words they are taking care of themselves. Whats the old saying What goes around comes around. "Fiction and Fact from Hals almanac".

I buy a ticket once a week or less. The reason I buy the ticket is that if I don't buy the ticket, hoping to win the lottery is a dream instead of a possibility.

Word on the street is folks have devised ways to use their food stamp benefit to buy lottery tickets. Who would have thought such a thing? :hunf:

Get ready for the Obamacare lottery ... where the stakes might be pretty high.

I went to the Doctor last Tuesday for some relief from a severe cold and pesky cough that was plaguing me. Ordinarily I'd see the Doctor but this time I was shifted to a Physician's Assistant. Has Obamacare begun already?

Ha. One of the most egregious frauds perpetrated on the America public; representatives voting for something without reading it. Yet many voters seemed simply not to care. Oh well. 8-)
