I took several pictures of this jaguar. I loved that he actually looked at me, and his eyes were soft, not cold. So I want to print it as a portrait (sort of). I'm posting the original so you know where I started. I cropped it, then put it in Topaz Photo AI. That enlarged it, but nothing else. Then I put it in PS to attempt to nullify the tree that is behind his ear. I sharpened it a bit, warmed it up a bit and called it done.

Is it too crunchy? Is it too warm?

I've printed one and it looked sort of OK, but I wonder if it could be better. I'm terrible at PP work. I have LR 6.14 and CS 5(?) the next to last before subscription and some of its possibilities have been grayed out (unavailable).

You've done global edits (everything affected equally), rather than separate layers with masks, I'm thinking? With layers and masks, you could leave your background unsharpened and slightly less "warm," and the grass color more muted. Also, you might have introduced some blue into the white fur areas, or it's already there, but could be adjusted.

A handsome jaguar, and yes those eyes are intelligent and very lovely.

What Linda said plus you also have some white fringe (chromatic aberration) around edges of the cat, particularly the ears and back. Simple fix and YouTube has lots of tutorials with most editors.

Yes, I do mostly global edits. I've never been successful at layers, but occasionally I do masks in LR. They aren't very successful. I actually bumped the green up a bit. I can take it back down. Never thought about blueing the white fur. Are you saying it looks that way already or needs to bee?

I saw that and studied it some. Because of the way the sun was right then, there was a bit or rim lighting, that Ii wanted to keep. I'll see if I can see it well enough to try to fix. Between bad eyesight and shaky hands I have trouble with that. Is it the sort of thing that can be corrected in LR automatically? I've never done that, but I know it's possible.

The jaguar might benefit from some lightening, even if it means reining in the highlights a smidge. The lightening might reduce the slightly over-saturated look, but if it didn't, some desaturation might be in order.

The background could be subdued further, which you can do by selecting it and reducing the contrast, maybe even give it some negative Clarity, plus hit it with lots of denoise. And you could take advantage of that selection by subduing the highlights for the background. If you subdue the highlights first you can use the Duplicate function for that selection (more than once if necessary), and lifting the shadows might also help, depending on how much negative Contrast you give it.

The white fur round his mouth and nose and chest has a noticeable blue tint which you can get rid of using the HSL tool. There's no other blue bits in the frame to worry about so just do what you have to do to get rid of it.

A sad look in the eyes… captivity certainly breaks the spirit!

LR6.14= If you feel something is too crunchy you might try some local brush work on them. Anything from reducing sharpness or clarity or both. Don't feel the outcome helped, just delete the brush. Plus could always do a virtual copy before moving forward with any additional editing. Have fun & nice photo.

"Success" in this case is just practice, practice, practice But I know you're not that into editing, Kathy, and much prefer to being out with your camera than sitting at a computer.

Without a commitment to learning more about processing (and updating your software, lol) there will be occasions when you may have to settle for a less than perfect result.

I like what you've done, that's one cat I'd love to see in the wild.
